Emerson CNO president-elect of Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives
At the Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives, Kevin Whitney, RN, MA, NEA-BC, became the President-Elect of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives (MONE). Whitney has been a member of MONE since 2002 and has served on the Board as the Metro-West Regional Representative and as Secretary and chair of the By-laws Committee. He is the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Emerson Hospital in Concord, Mass. Kevin will succeed President Elaine Bridge for the 2011-2012 fiscal year. Read More

Emerson Hospital Run-Walk for Cancer a runaway success
The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary recently held its tenth annual 5K Run-Walk for Cancer and inaugural Cancer Survivorship Celebration. The event, jointly sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary and The Thoreau Club, drew 450 people and raised more than $20,000. Emerson Hospital displays handmade quilts
Starting June 15, visitors to Emerson Hospital will have an opportunity to view quilts that are handmade by participants in the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary’s Comfort Quilts gift program. The exhibit will showcase—for the first time—the artistic ability of the quilters. The exhibit will be on display in the main hallway of the hospital. Visitors to the hospital may purchase the quilts, and 25% of the sale price goes to the hospital. Read More

Emerson Hospital diabetes education program receives grant to enhance patient education
Emerson Hospital’s diabetes education program recently earned a three-year grant from Partners Community HealthCare, Inc. that will allow them to set up a mock grocery store at their outpatient location and will also provide funding for a therapist to offer group therapy twice per month. Read More

Emerson Hospital Auxiliary hosts 34th annual Pops concert
The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary hosted its 34th Annual spring Pops concert at the Walden Performing Arts Center in Concord. The evening included “Swing into Spring” pieces led by music director and conductor James O’Dell, who kicked off his second season with the Concord Band by welcoming returning jazz vocalist Amanda Carr. Carr performed several new arrangements prepared for her by music director emeritus Dr. William McManus. Compassionate Care Award honors Emerson Hospital nurse and occupational therapist
Littleton resident Marilyn Converse, RN, a pain resource nurse, and Maynard resident Patricia White, an occupa tional therapist, were recently recognized for their compassionate care. They were honored at an award ceremony for the Terry Croteau Compassionate Care Award, named after an Emerson Hospital employee who lost her battle with breast cancer. The concept for the award grew out of Emerson’s involvement in the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, a non-profit foundation dedicated to promot ing compassionate care in medicine. All Emerson employees involved in the care of patients and their families are eligible for the award. At the award ceremony, members of the hospital community gathered to honor the recipients’ empathetic caregiving. Read More

Quarterly meeting fosters continued partnership in care transitions
Emerson Hospital recently hosted a meeting, part of a larger initiative to improve care transitions, for community partners representing skilled nursing facilities, care management, and Councils on Aging, among other organizations. The goal of the meeting, titled “Care Transitions – Building Collaborative Partners,” was to develop standards for care transitions as patients transfer from the hospital to home or to further rehabilitation.
