Emerson Hospital offers AARP Driver Safety Program
(CONCORD, Mass., April 22, 2008)--The AARP Driver Safety Program will be offered at Emerson Hospital in Concord on Tuesday, April 29, and Thursday, May 1 (two-day, eight-hour course). Presented by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and sponsored by Emerson Hospital, the classroom refresher course focuses on compensating for physiological changes that can affect the perceptual skills of drivers over 55 years of age.
The course, taught by Dr. Harold D. Homefield, a trained volunteer instructor, covers many facets of driving such as traffic interaction, vehicle safety, adverse driving conditions and rules of the road. The AARP Driver Safety Program, begun in 1978, is the first and only driver education course designed specifically to help the older driver compensate for normal age-related physiological problems such as slower reaction time and vision and hearing deficiencies.
The two-part, eight-hour course will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 29 and May 1, with lunch at noon on both days. The cost of the course is $10.00 (to cover supplies). Lunch will be provided each day at no charge. The AARP Driver Safety Program is limited to 30 people, and registration is required. For more information or to register, call Jan Quinty at 978-287-3085.
