Emerson Breast Health Center recognized for excellence
(CONCORD, Mass., October 18, 2007)--Emerson Hospital’s Breast Health Center was recently designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The designation recognizes breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs as well as the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
“We are very proud to have received this recognition from the American College of Radiology,” said David Rose, MD, chair of the radiology department at Emerson Hospital. “We at Emerson Hospital are committed to providing high-quality and state-of-the-art breast imaging to our patients, and this designation validates our pursuit of excellence.”
The designation of excellence, awarded by the ACR’s Commission on Quality and Safety and the Commission on Breast Imaging, recognizes centers that are dedicated to improving women’s health by participating in rigorous quality assurance programs.
In order to receive the ACR’s Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation, a center must be fully accredited by the ACR in mammography (may also be accredited by an FDA-approved state accrediting body), stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound (including the ultrasound-guided breast biopsy module). Peer-review evaluations, conducted in each breast imaging modality by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field, determined that Emerson achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality-control procedures and quality-assurance programs.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology, as well as the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services.
