Emerson Hospital partners with Town of Acton to provide free wellness day
(CONCORD, Mass., April 14, 2008)--The Town of Acton Board of Health and Public Health Nursing Services will present the second annual Wellness University, a wellness day for residents aged 50+. Emerson Hospital is the major sponsor of the free event, which will take place on April 26, 2008, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm at the Parker Damon Building on 11 Charter Road in Acton, Mass.
Developed in 2007, Wellness University offers health and wellness programming to men and women in their 50s and older. Topics that will be discussed include diabetes management, headaches and migraines, balance and fall prevention, the diet-colon cancer connection, and chair yoga, among others. Presenters include physicians from Emerson Hospital as well as other clinical leaders. More than 140 attendees participated in last year’s event.
“This is our second year working with Emerson Hospital on Wellness University,” said Heather Hasz, CEHT, CFSP, deputy health director of the Acton Board of Health. “We’re excited that this year's program includes even more collaborations within the community. We are working as a community to make it a well-rounded event. In conceptualizing Wellness University, we strove to develop new and innovative methods of educating the community on health and well-being, particularly for the 50+ crowd, as they lacked formal programming. We hope for the same success as last year.”
Wellness University is sponsored by Emerson Hospital and the following sponsors: Friends of Acton Nursing Services, Tedeschi’s Food Shop/TD’s Deli, Donelan’s Supermarkets, Dunkin’ Donuts of Acton, Teamworks-Acton, and Trader Joe’s. A lunchtime fashion show is sponsored by Talbots.
