Mass General Hospital and Emerson Hospital announce new clinical collaboration in cardiac care
MGH-Emerson Cardiovascular Center will strengthen existing partnerships in cancer care and pediatrics
(CONCORD, Mass., July 21, 2008)--The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Emerson Hospital in Concord are pleased to announce their partnership in developing the MGH-Emerson Hospital Cardiovascular Center, to be based at the Emerson Hospital Center for Specialty Care on Baker Avenue in Concord. The Cardiovascular Center will offer patients in the Metrowest area convenient access to the expertise of physicians from the Massachusetts General Heart Center while continuing to strengthen and grow the two institutions’ existing collaborations in radiation oncology through the MGH Cancer Center and pediatrics and neonatology through the MassGeneral Hospital for Children.
Initially, the MGH-Emerson Cardiovascular Center will be comprised of three clinics staffed by physicians and nurse practitioners from the Massachusetts General Hospital Heart Center. Specialists in the areas of electrophysiology, women’s heart health and advanced heart failure will provide consultation and treatment and will work with Emerson’s physicians and existing specialty programs to provide patients the best in cardiovascular care.
The MGH-Emerson Hospital Cardiovascular Center, expected to open in late 2008, will be housed in new, state-of-the-art offices and exams rooms to be built at Emerson Hospital’s Center for Specialty Care on Baker Ave in Concord, located less than one mile from the hospital. This location will allow easy coordination of care for patients requiring treatment at Emerson’s existing specialty care clinics, including the Weight Management Center, the Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine, the Elizabeth Smith Agarwal Diabetes Center, the Bone and Joint Center, and PET/CT scanning. These centers complement the medical needs of many cardiovascular patients.
"Massachusetts General Hospital is pleased to deepen our existing partnerships with Emerson Hospital in cancer care, neonatology and pediatric specialty care with the addition of these advanced cardiovascular services," said Dr. Peter Slavin, president of Massachusetts General Hospital. "We are also pleased that the Cardiovascular Center will provide health care options for the community, while supporting Emerson Hospital and its physicians and existing ancillary programs."
"Our affiliations with MGH enable us to bring the expertise of a world renowned academic medical center to a convenient setting for the 25 towns served by Emerson in the Metrowest area," said Christine Schuster, president and CEO of Emerson Hospital. "The Cardiovascular Center will also be conveniently located to take advantage of the existing services offered at the Center for Specialty Care, a new concept that brings together many of Emerson’s talented specialists at one facility."
The Massachusetts General Hospital Heart Center offers closely linked, condition-specific programs with one cardiologist guiding a team of specialists through the course of a patient’s care. For more information, visit www.massgeneral.org/heartcenter.
