PRENATAL EXERCISE for a healthier pregnancy
Specifically designed for mothers-to-be, this class teaches exercises for injury prevention, strengthening and general conditioning. Led by Patricia Davis, Emerson Hospital physical therapist.
$85 for each six-week session beginning: January 4, February 22, April 12, June 7, July 26. All classes are Monday 7:00-8:30 pm.

PRACTICAL AND EFFECTIVE SELF-DEFENSE for Adults, Teens, Children and Families
Learn physical and verbal techniques for self-defense and family safety in these fun and practical progressive classes. Presented by Len and Johanna Glazer, 3rd-degree black belts from The Concord Self-Defense Academy.
$100 for an individual student. $80 for each additional family member (age 6 and up). Eight-week sessions begin Sunday, January 17, March 21, and June 6 3:00-4:30 pm. 2:00-3:00pm (kids class ages 6-10) or 3:00-4:30pm (ages 10 to adult)

YOGA & MEDITATION
Reduce stress and muscle tension, improve flexibility and strength and learn breathing techniques to manage your mood. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring an exercise mat. Not for expectant mothers. Please choose Monday class taught by certified instructor Natalie Engler or the Friday class taught by certified instructor Nancy Dorenfeld.
$98 for each seven-week session beginning:

TAI CHI
Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art, is practiced to achieve therapeutic benefits, as well as to promote balance, improve flexibility and overall strength. The instructor is Ming Wu, PhD.
$98 for each eight-week session. Sessions begin: January 13, March 10, May 5 and June 30. Wednesdays 9:30-10:30 am.

QI GONG
Qi gong is an integration of physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intentions. The gentle, rhythmic movements reduce stress, build stamina and increase vitality. The instructor is Ming Wu, PhD.
$98 for each eight-week session. Sessions begin: January 13, March 10, May 5 and June 30. Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 am.

BABYSITTING TRAINING
One-day class for ages 10-13 covers everything you need to know to be a great babysitter! Certificate of participation awarded upon completion. Taught by
educator Becky Patterson. Pre-registration is required.
$39 per person or 2/$70 when registering together. Choose a Saturday: January 23, February 20, March 20, April 24, May 22, June 19, July 24 or August 21.
All classes held 9:00 am-2:00 pm.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION
Learn to use your inner wisdom to help improve health, relationships and quality of life. Approved for 30 contact hours for nursing for the eight-week program attendance. Presented by Patricia Howard.
$45 (cost will be applied to the full program). Attend a one-evening introductory lecture: Wednesday, January 13, or March 31, 7:00-9:00 pm.
$590 plus $45 for required course materials/CD set. Eight-week program begins Wednesday, January 20, or April 7, 7:00-9:00 pm, plus Sunday, February 28, or May 16, 9:00 am-3:00 pm.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION for those diagnosed with cancer
Decrease the stress of living with cancer by learning coping and healing skills you can use every day. In this three-week class, we will explore mindfulness practices, energy techniques and personal expression as ways to support you on your journey. Presented by Patricia Howard.
$75. February 4, 11, 18 or April 8, 15, 22, 7:00-9:00 pm.

HYPNOSIS FOR WEIGHT LOSS
The natural and safe process of hypnosis uncovers underlying emotions, feelings, thoughts and attitudes and guides you towards healthy eating patterns. Presented by Joseph Packard, board-certified hypnotherapist.
$100 for 3 sessions. Choose a session: January 19, 26, February 2, March 16, 23, 30, May 11, 18, 25, July 13, 20, 27. All classes are 5:00-7:00 pm.

ALOTTA HOOPLA ARTIST PERFORMANCE
and Hoop-Making Workshop
Exercise your body and have fun while experiencing the hooping ability of Shenandoah's Alotta Hoopla Hoop. Join us for a special opportunity to custom-design your own hoop. Appropriate for ages 8 to 80.
$20 (plus cost of hoop-making materials). Saturday, February 20, 1:00-3:00 pm. Held at The Thoreau Club in Concord.

NUTRITION MADE FUN!
Eating Mediterranean in New England
In this workshop, Bill Bradley, registered dietitian, will discuss how to eat the "healthiest diet in the world" utilizing local New England resources. He will teach easy ways to improve your health, both at home and when eating out. A cooking demonstration and taste-testing are included.
$45. Thursday, February 25, 7:00-9:00 pm.
(Food ingredients for this program will be generously donated by Whole Foods Market, Bedford, Mass.)

LIVING THE MEDITERRANEAN WAY– One-Day Class
This fun-filled seminar includes cooking classes, an introduction to the Mediterranean diet and tips on creating a Mediterranean kitchen. The program, presented by Bill Bradley, registered dietitian, includes a presentation by Stephen Dyda, DO, and Benjamin Tillinger, MD, from Emerson Cardiology Associates, who will discuss the impact of diet on heart disease and the association of the Mediterranean diet with a lower risk for coronary syndromes. A traditional lunch and snacks from the island of Crete will be served.

BUILDING BETTER BONES TOGETHER
Stand tall and take smart steps toward better bones, health, flexibility and balance. Learn the basics of osteoporosis and what exercise can do to help women and men be proactive about it. This seminar is led by Linda May Sieck, certified personal trainer.

BEING RESOURCEFUL: Using what you have to get where you want to be
Learn how to capitalize on your resources to achieve the results that are most important to you. This interactive, thought-provoking program will help you increase your productivity and profitability. Presented by Andrea Novakowski, MBA, master certified coach.

FUNDAMENTALS OF ACUPRESSURE POINTS
Learn how the Chinese meridian system works and then focus on the dynamic interaction between acupressure points. Each participant will experience, hands-on, how simple pressure on specific points can alleviate common pain conditions. Presented by Loocie Brown, professor at New England School of Acupuncture and licensed acupuncturist:
Acupressure points for hand, wrist and elbow disorders: topics will include arthritis of the thumb and fingers, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger and elbow tendonitis (tennis and golfer’s elbow).

Acupressure points for foot, ankle and knee disorders: topics will range from plantar fasciitis (foot pain), sprained ankle and osteoarthritis of the knees to techniques for addressing sciatic pain.

TODAY IS GOING TO BE A GOOD DAY: Making it through the day when your loved one has Alzheimer's
This interactive workshop invites participants to gain a better understanding of the world of Alzheimer's by stepping into their loved one's shoes and experiencing the feelings of confusion firsthand. Presented by Mal Allard, LPN, a consultant who specializes in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. Approved for one contact hour for nursing.

REIKI Training Classes
Discover this hands-on energy therapy that can be used to provide relaxation, manage pain and promote overall wellness. Presented by Libby Barnett, MSW, of the Reiki Healing Connection. Receive reiki practitioner certification. Approved for five contact hours for nursing for each full day of attendance.

NUTRITION WISE: CANCER SURVIVORSHIP
We will discuss current nutrition strategies for preventing cancer recurrence in this informal forum for individuals who have completed treatment and are striving for healthy eating habits. Led by dietitian Ena Sandler, RD, LDN.
