Winifred Bush recently made a generous gift to support Emerson Hospital’s fundraising initiative aimed at enhancing care at the Bethke Cancer Center. Concord artist shares talent at Emerson Hospital

Patients and visitors at Emerson Hospital can view local talent in the current exhibition of art in the hospital’s main hallway. On display will be paintings by Lindsey Brown, a Concord resident since 1964, who attended Concord Public Schools and graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1975. From December 17, 2010, through February 14, 2011, his paintings will be displayed at Emerson Hospital in an art show sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary.  Read More

Emerson Hospital to kick off holiday season with annual Tree of Lights on December 6

The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary will hold its annual Tree of Lights ceremony on Monday, December 6, at 4:30 pm. Members of the community are invited to join Emerson staff and patients for a brief program in the North Assembly Room at the hospital, followed by the tree lighting in front of the White House. Verrill Farm Harvest Festival raises $12,000 for Emerson Hospital pediatrics

The Verrill Farm Harvest Festival to benefit Emerson pediatric care recently raised $12,000 to benefit coping kits, which are distributed by Emerson Hospital’s pediatric intervention team. The kits are colorful bags of therapeutic toys given to children who enter the hospital through the emergency department or upon admission to the pediatric unit.  Read More

Emerson Hospital cardiac rehabilitation offers prevention program

Emerson Hospital’s cardiac rehabilitation program will offer a 12-week prevention course for cardiac metabolic syndrome. The program is designed for people at risk for heart disease or type II diabetes. “We want to aggressively treat people before they have an ‘event’ – a heart attack, bypass surgery or a stent,” said Ginny Dow, RN, BSN, BC, manager of the cardiac rehabilitation program.  Read More

Latest Emerson Hospital Youth Risk Behavior Survey provides data on local adolescent risk behaviors

The 2010 Emerson Hospital Youth Risk Behavior Survey, administered to 8,597 area students in grades 6, 8, and 9-12 in seven local school districts, reveals new statistics about adolescent risk behavior patterns. Topical and timely data are now available related to driving and cell phone usage, bullying trends, and sexual behavior, among other risk behaviors analyzed in the survey.  Read More

Emerson Hospital recently has been accredited as a Level 1A facility by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program. This important designation means that Emerson has demonstrated a strong commitment to providing the highest-quality care to its weight loss surgery patients. At the Annual Meeting of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives, Kevin Whitney, RN, MA, NEA-BC, became the President-Elect of the Massachusetts Organization of Nurse Executives (MONE). Whitney has been a member of MONE since 2002 and has served on the Board as the Metro-West Regional Representative and as Secretary and chair of the By-laws Committee. Starting June 15, visitors to Emerson Hospital will have an opportunity to view quilts that are handmade by participants in the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary’s Comfort Quilts gift program. The exhibit will showcase—for the first time—the artistic ability of the quilters. The exhibit will be on display in the main hallway of the hospital. Compassionate Care Award honors Emerson Hospital nurse and occupational therapist

Littleton resident Marilyn Converse, RN, a pain resource nurse, and Maynard resident Patricia White, an occupa tional therapist, were recently recognized for their compassionate care. They were honored at an award ceremony for the Terry Croteau Compassionate Care Award, named after an Emerson Hospital employee who lost her battle with breast cancer. The concept for the award grew out of Emerson’s involvement in the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, a non-profit foundation dedicated to promot ing compassionate care in medicine. All Emerson employees involved in the care of patients and their families are eligible for the award. At the award ceremony, members of the hospital community gathered to honor the recipients’ empathetic caregiving. Read More

Emerson Hospital recently hosted a meeting, part of a larger initiative to improve care transitions, for community partners representing skilled nursing facilities, care management, and Councils on Aging, among other organizations.
