“The annual Run-Walk for Cancer is a shining example of the collective generosity and positive spirit of our community,” said Margaret Koch, manager of cancer services at Emerson Hospital. “Whether you are walking with friends or running the race, it’s a great event full of optimism and hope. There is palpable strength in the numbers of people who come. Each and every participant’s fundraising efforts is making a difference for someone with cancer.”
At the heart of Emerson’s comprehensive cancer program is the Bethke Cancer Center, which combines talented cancer specialists and state-of-the-art technology in a convenient, comfortable setting. The Bethke Cancer Center is committed to providing compassionate and supportive care for patients and their families.
Money raised from the Run-Walk supports cancer programs at Emerson Hospital and ensures that more patients like Kelly Cook continue to receive top-notch care close to home. “I wasn’t afraid at all,” said Cook, a teacher and writer who was treated at Emerson’s Bethke Cancer Center. “Maybe that was because I felt comfortable about my cancer diagnosis, but it was also due to the atmosphere provided by the staff and doctors. They were encouraging, flexible, and friendly. They were interested in me as a person. Upon ending my treatment, I had to tell them they were the nicest group of people I was ever pleased to be leaving. I had a great experience at the Bethke Cancer Center.”
The Bethke Cancer Center, ranked in the top 1% for patient satisfaction across all surveyed Massachusetts cancer centers, was founded at Emerson Hospital in 1997, offering expert, state-of-the-art treatment and cancer care in a comfortable setting. By partnering with Massachusetts General Hospital and collaborating with Commonwealth Hematology/Oncology, the Center provides high-quality treatment and technology. The Bethke Cancer Center offers outpatient services in hematology, medical oncology, and radiation oncology.
The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary supports the hospital through community awareness, health-related education and fundraising activities. To become a member of the Auxiliary or to learn more, contact Karen McCarthy at 978-371-2133.
