4/6/09: Emerson Hospital to host day of free health screenings
Emerson Hospital will host a health day on May 2 from 9:00 am – 1:30 pm in the Bethke Cancer Center. The event, formerly known as Cancer Awareness Day, will include free screenings, tours of new operating rooms and private maternity suites, cancer and general health information, conversations with health and wellness experts, refreshments, and more. Registration is required for skin cancer, thyroid, prostate specific antigen (PSA) and lipid profile/cholesterol screenings. No registration is required for blood pressure, diabetes, and respiratory screenings.
“This event is an opportunity for us to give back to our community,” said Christine Schuster, president and CEO of Emerson Hospital. “Emerson offers a comprehensive approach to cancer care, including prevention, screenings, early detection, and customized treatment options. Our collaborative programs with Massachusetts General Hospital and Commonwealth Hematology Oncology make it possible for us to provide first-class care in a community setting.”
In addition to the screenings, participants can tour Emerson’s new Birthing Center, Clough Surgical Center, and Yeatts Radiology Center, all part of the hospital’s recently completed $36-million project to enhance the patient experience in three key areas. The project combined new construction with a series of innovative renovations and upgrades.
There will also be a book signing with Julie K. Silver, MD, a breast cancer survivor and author of the book “What Helped me Get Through: Cancer Survivors Share Wisdom and Hope.” One hundred free copies of her book will be distributed during the event. Attendees can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a free spa package from 1 on 1 Self Indulgence Spa in Concord.
