6/7/10: Bedford photographer’s love of nature showcased at Emerson Hospital art exhibit

Bedford resident Michael Milicia’s photographs of birds will be displayed in the main hallway of Emerson Hospital from June 15 to August 15.

“I am motivated by a love of nature, a fascination with wildlife, and the never-ending challenge of finding that perfect combination of good light, cooperative subject, attractive setting, and beautiful background,” said Milicia.  “This is what allows me to create an artistically-pleasing image.  I am continually amazed at the diversity and complexity of the avian world, and it is the natural grace and beauty of these wonderful creatures that make my work possible.”

Milicia’s training comes from self-study and from seminars and workshops led by several of the top nature photography professionals, most notably Arthur Morris, Charles Glatzer, and Chris Dodds.  The choice of birds as his primary subject is largely due to inspiration drawn from the writings and photographs of Arthur Morris.

Milicia does much of his bird photography at the Concord impoundment of the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island.  He also travels several times a year to various “hot spot” locations throughout the United States and Canada to observe and photograph birds in their natural habitats.

The photography display is sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary.  The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary supports the hospital community through awareness, patient support, and fundraising activities.  Anyone interested in becoming a member or learning about the Auxiliary should contact Karen McCarthy at 978-371-2133. Visitors to the hospital may purchase the photographs, and 25% of the sale price goes to the hospital.
