5/10/10: Pain treatment options to be discussed at Lincoln Council on Aging
Dr. Alexios Carayannopoulos, a Lahey Clinic interventional physiatrist who practices at Emerson Hospital, will present a lecture on pain management at the Lincoln Council on Aging (15 Bedford Road) on Thursday, May 20, at 10:30 am.
Physiatrists are physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation, including the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and pain syndromes, electrodiagnostic medicine, and rehabilitation of patients with severe impairments. These conditions may include sports and/or work injuries, as well as degenerative conditions such as arthritis or lower back pain.

Dr. Alexios Carayannopoulos is an osteopathic physician who is Board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as pain medicine. He is the medical director of Lahey Clinic’s Spine Center, which specializes in comprehensive spine care, including surgical and non-surgical approaches. Dr. Carayannopoulos completed his residency at Harvard Medical School, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Mass General Hospital, and his fellowship in the department of anesthesia at Dartmouth Medical School and Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, NH. Additionally, Dr. Carayannopoulos is a Harvard-trained medical acupuncturist and U.S. Navy-trained specialist in diving and undersea medicine. He is a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Navy Medical Corps.
