6/8/10: Emerson Hospital displays handmade quilts
Starting June 15, visitors to Emerson Hospital will have an opportunity to view quilts that are handmade by participants in the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary’s Comfort Quilts gift program. The exhibit will showcase—for the first time—the artistic ability of the quilters. The exhibit will be on display in the main hallway of the hospital. Visitors to the hospital may purchase the quilts, and 25% of the sale price goes to the hospital.
The program has donated more than 500 quilts since its inception five years ago. The quilts are made and donated by individuals and groups, including the Concord Piecemakers, Material Girls, and Squanicook Guild.
Rosaria Colosi, Emerson Hospital Auxiliary Board member, coordinates the Comfort Quilts gift program and regularly delivers quilts to the Bethke Cancer Center. As they are available, they are gifted to individual patients currently receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy at the cancer center.
The Bethke Cancer Center offers the community the best in cancer care with expert, state-of-the-art treatment and the latest technology. The Center strives to provide not only the best possible treatment, but also to give patients a caring and comfortable setting in which to undergo their treatment.
For information on purchasing any artwork, contact the community services department at Emerson Hospital at 978-287-3200.
If you are interested in making quilts for the Bethke Cancer Center, contact Rosaria T. Colosi, chair of the Comfort Quilt Program, at RTColosi@aol.com.
The art display is sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary. The Auxiliary supports the hospital through community awareness, patient support, and fundraising activities. Anyone interested in becoming a member or learning more about the Auxiliary should contact Karen McCarthy at 978-371-2133.
