9/10/10: Emerson Hospital launches new Web site, enhances user experience

Emerson Hospital recently launched a brand new Web site (www.emersonhospital.org), which was designed and delivered on time and on budget by PARTNERS+simons, a Boston-based brand communications company, in partnership with Emerson. 

“Because we know that a Web site is often the first contact someone has with an organization, the new contemporary look and feel of ours is designed to make the online experience as warm and welcoming as the in-person greeting patients receive when they walk through Emerson’s front door,” said Christine Schuster, Emerson Hospital president and CEO.

Those familiar with the previous Web site will find an improved user experience, according to Schuster. The information is organized around patients to make it easier to find exactly what they are seeking. “From a design perspective, the site now matches the cutting-edge technologies at the hospital,” said Schuster. Key information about quality and patient safety is front and center on the homepage—making it easier for patients and visitors to learn more about important initiatives in this area.  With just a few clicks, anyone can view quality indicators that Emerson posts publicly on state and federal Web sites comparing hospital performance in Massachusetts and across the country.

If patients are searching the site for a physician or practice, they will find new information, including a best-in-class physician search tool with quick results and simple filtering. Many doctors have added videos to their Web profiles to help prospective patients learn more about them before their first visit. 

And, help is just a click away. Visitors to Emerson’s Web site now have the ability to chat live online 24/7 with a friendly assistant from our physician referral service. “They can even have a call center representative reach out to them directly, in keeping with Emerson’s ‘Premium Care, Personal Touch’ philosophy,” said Christine Gallery, vice president of planning and marketing development at Emerson Hospital. 

“For those who rely on cell phones and Blackberrys, anyone using the site can click the ‘Text me Details’ button to have helpful address and phone information right in your hand, wherever your day takes you,” said Gallery. “We also have created a version of the Web site specifically for viewing on a mobile phone.” 

For Web site users who are searching for directions to help navigate Emerson’s main campus and satellite facilities, customized Google maps will visually and graphically assist patients in their visit. Enhanced online capabilities now make it easier to share content, apply for a position, pay a bill, make a gift, or connect with friends and supporters on Facebook. 

Emerson Hospital is a multi-site health system headquartered in Concord, Mass., with additional facilities in Bedford, Sudbury, Groton, Westford, and Maynard.  The 179-bed hospital provides advanced medical services to more than 300,000 individuals in 25 towns.
