AARP’s Driver Safety Program
Cars have changed! And so have traffic rules, driving conditions and the roads we drive on every day. Brush up on your driving skills to stay safe. Emerson Hospital and the Center for Sports Rehabilitation and Specialty Services will be hosting AARP’s Driver Safety Program, led by an AARP consultant. The aim of this five hour program is to encourage drivers age 50+ to better understand the updated technologies in new vehicles, rules of the road and to learn strategies to compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing and response time. A certificate of completion will be awarded to all participants.

Clinical Assessment Program
The Outpatient Occupational Therapy department at the Center for Sports Rehabilitation and Specialty Services will accept physician referrals for the clinical driver assessment program. This program is geared toward adults who have undergone a change in health status in which the patient, patient’s family, physician or other clinician have a concern for the patient’s safety on the road. The program consists of two one-hour sessions; a one-hour clinical evaluation from a certified occupational therapist and, if qualified, a one-hour driving test from a certified rehabilitation specialist.
Cost is $300 for the clinical assessment and is payable by the patient at the time of scheduling. Upon completion of the clinical evaluation, you will be scheduled for an on-road assessment. You will incur an additional fee paid directly to the independent certified driver rehabilitation specialist, estimated cost of $250.
The occupational therapist who performed your assessment will accompany you on the driving test.
A physician referral is required.
