High-Risk Obstetrics/Maternal-Fetal Medicine
Emerson’s maternal-fetal medicine service provides care for women who have complications identified prior to or during pregnancy. High-risk pregnancy specialists from Brigham and Women’s Hospital are available at Emerson for women who are pregnant with multiples and women who have medical conditions that may cause complications during pregnancy.
Emerson offers the area’s only Special Care (Level 2) Nursery. Directed by a Massachusetts General Hospital neonatologist, the Special Care Nursery provides care for newborns who are born ahead of schedule or who require advanced medical care. A pediatric hospitalist is on site and available 24 hours a day.
Diagnosis and Testing
Emerson Hospital offers a certified genetic counselor who can guide obstetrical patients through prenatal genetic testing. The genetic testing can help identify structural defects, genetic conditions and chromosomal disorders early in pregnancy.
Emerson Hospital’s radiologists use Level 2 ultrasound, the most advanced level available, to screen for fetal abnormalities and pregnancy complications. Our new ultrasound suite provides obstetrical patients with convenience and privacy. The new area includes a separate check-in and waiting area and a genetic counseling room.
