Spine surgeons at Emerson provide evaluation and treatment of all spinal disorders affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. A multidisciplinary approach is used to restore flexibility and strength and eliminate pain. Treatment options including physical therapy, medication, chiropractics and pain management are explored. If surgery is necessary, sophisticated diagnostic tools, innovative minimally invasive surgical techniques and new devices improve the range of options for patients. A number of Emerson’s spine specialists are also engaged in clinical trials at academic medical centers.

Spine Surgery

Physicians at Emerson’s Bone and Joint Center offer a full range of diagnostic and treatment services for adult spine problems. The center also includes specialists in hand and podiatry surgery, sports medicine and rheumatology. Bone and Joint Center physicians are located at Emerson’s Center for Specialty Care in Concord as well as in individual offices throughout the area.

Diagnosis

Emerson offers advanced imaging technology such as MRI, CT scan and nuclear medicine in the Yeatts Radiology Center to aid in the accurate diagnosis of orthopedic conditions.

Anesthesia

Our spine surgeons work closely with Emerson’s expert anesthesiologists, who provide clinical anesthesia services for patients. Available at the hospital 24 hours a day, anesthesiologists also consult on pain management for those with chronic pain.

Emerson’s bone and joint specialists use a multidisciplinary approach—surgeons, physical therapists, physiatrists, rheumatologists and others collaborate to determine the best treatment option for each patient. If surgery is necessary, Emerson offers a wide range of orthopedic surgery procedures including minimally invasive surgery.

In addition to skilled and experienced orthopedic surgeons, Emerson offers comprehensive support services for spine surgery patients. If your surgery requires a hospital stay, you will be cared for by the hospital’s highly regarded nursing staff, many of whom have special training in pain management—an important aspect of orthopedic care. The Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster Workshop teaches mind-body techniques to engage the body’s natural healing processes. Program participants report less pain, fewer complications and faster recoveries.

Emerson also offers a wide range of community health and wellness programs and classes that can help participants learn about maintaining health or manage the stress associated with illness.
