From December 15, 2011, through February 15, 2012, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary will display photographs by Christopher M. Russo. Russo’s background as an information technology professional complements his photography expertise; he often uses technology to support and enhance his work. Russo employs the latest technologies and high-quality equipment to augment his artistic eye and to explore light and color. He uses techniques including Trueview© Perspective Correction, Truesight© Imagery, Color Calibrated Color Correct, Advanced Image Correction, and Panoramic Images. Read More

Mary Lou LoVecchio art displayed by Emerson Hospital Auxiliary

From December 5, 2011 - February 5, 2012, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary will display the artwork of Mary Lou LoVecchio of Concord. LoVecchio is a Corporator of Emerson Hospital and has lived in Concord for 32 years. She minored in art at Georgian Court College in New Jersey but had not focused on her painting until her retirement from teaching in the Sudbury Public Schools. She has studied watercolor painting at the DeCordova Museum School and more recently, she has studied watercolor with Marla Greenfield, an award-winning watercolorist. LoVecchio attributes her growth as a painter to Greenfield’s instruction. Read More

Kristen Donovan art displayed by Emerson Hospital Auxiliary

From August 15 through October 17, 2011, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary will display art by Kristen Donovan of Stow, Mass. Donovan is a graduate of Boston College with a degree in studio art and art history. A classically-trained artist, Kristen studied from age six under Jean and Henry Lee. As well as being a professional artist, Donovan enjoys teaching art in her studio and at the Council on Aging in Stow, where she shares her talents with seniors.  Read More

Bonnie McGrath art displayed by Emerson Hospital Auxiliary

From June 15 - August 15, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary will display the artwork of Bonnie McGrath of Acton, Mass. After graduating from the Acton school system, Bonnie attended the Massachusetts School of Art (now Massachusetts College of Art and Design) in Boston, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in fine art. She went on to take courses in photography and painting, and for many years this was the focus of her work. However, 10 years ago she returned to her other passion—watercolor painting. For more than 30 years, Bonnie has made note cards, magnets, bookmarks, and matted prints to sell in local stores. She has had many group and one-person gallery shows and is author of the classic photography book titled “Walden Pond, Reflections of Henry David Thoreau.” Read More

Emerson Hospital Auxiliary Run-Walk raises record amount

The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary recently held its 11th annual 5K Run-Walk for Cancer and Family Fun-Day. The event was jointly sponsored by The Thoreau Club and Marx Running of Acton. The Run-Walk drew almost 450 people and raised more than $42,000—the largest amount of money ever raised in the history of the Run-Walk. Mark Coddaire of Marx Running of Acton and Faith Pulis, president and CEO of The Thoreau Club, co-chaired the event.  Read More

From June 15 through August 15, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary will display photographs by Robert Moll. Now retired, Moll is from Chelmsford and has been a commercial photographer for 40 years. He has an extensive portfolio of photography shot for magazines and catalogs—first in New York for 25 years and then in New England for 15 years. Read More

Get ready for summer from head to toe! | Emerson Auxiliary partners with Concord salon to raise funds

From June 14-16, the Mane Escape Salon and Spa at 37 Thoreau Street in Concord will donate a percentage of their revenues to benefit Emerson Hospital. This promotion is the result of a partnership forged between the salon and the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary. “These events are a win-win for us and the participating businesses,” said Anne Lehmann, president of the Auxiliary. “They generate customers for the businesses and raise funds for the Auxiliary.”  Read More

Emerson Hospital will hold its annual 5K (3.1 miles) Run-Walk for Cancer on June 4, 2011, starting at 10:00 a.m. at The Thoreau Club Field (275 Forest Ridge Road, Concord). Sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary, Marx Running, and The Thoreau Club, this year’s event is co-chaired by Faith Pulis, chief executive officer of The Thoreau Club, and Mark Coddaire, president of Marx Running.  Read More

Concord artist renews her love of the local area

Carole Parrish loves to paint images of Cape Cod. She was born in Boston and has lived most of her life there. But, for 20 years, she lived in Ohio—land-locked and far away from the ocean and beaches that she loved. During that time, her appreciation and love for the Massachusetts landscape was heightened. Although she believes her time in Ohio was “rich and wonderful,” she saw her return to Boston as a real homecoming. Read More

Emerson Hospital Auxiliary goes international

When Concord resident Jeannette Taylor was describing her forthcoming trip to an orphanage in northwestern Burma, she mentioned wanting to bring something fun for the children. Liz Berk, Emerson Hospital Auxiliary member, suggested a teddy bear—like those given by the Auxiliary to pediatric patients at Emerson. Berk has sewn the bears for many years, and so she sought permission to use the pattern. Soon enough, they had 20 bears cut from flannel, sewn, and ready to be stuffed by the children in Burma. Read More

Concord artist shares talent at Emerson Hospital

Patients and visitors at Emerson Hospital can view local talent in the current exhibition of art in the hospital’s main hallway. On display will be paintings by Lindsey Brown, a Concord resident since 1964, who attended Concord Public Schools and graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1975. From December 17, 2010, through February 14, 2011, his paintings will be displayed at Emerson Hospital in an art show sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary.  Read More

The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary recently held its tenth annual 5K Run-Walk for Cancer and inaugural Cancer Survivorship Celebration. The event, jointly sponsored by the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary and The Thoreau Club, drew 450 people and raised more than $20,000. Emerson Hospital displays handmade quilts

Starting June 15, visitors to Emerson Hospital will have an opportunity to view quilts that are handmade by participants in the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary’s Comfort Quilts gift program. The exhibit will showcase—for the first time—the artistic ability of the quilters. The exhibit will be on display in the main hallway of the hospital. Visitors to the hospital may purchase the quilts, and 25% of the sale price goes to the hospital. Read More
