Student Program

To volunteer at Emerson a student must be at least 14 years of age and be willing to commit to 100 hours of community service. Students may volunteer in the school year or summer program. Maturity, dependability and confidentiality are essential qualities we seek in prospective student volunteers.

Student volunteers perform a wide variety of duties including in the areas of transport, gift shop, coffee shop, book cart, reception cart and office support.

Because the student volunteer program is popular, students are encouraged to call the Volunteer Office at (978) 287-3200 to place their name on a prospective student waiting list. Students are contacted as openings occur in the program.

When you are called to volunteer, you will be required to attend a new volunteer orientation and complete 12 hours of on-the-job training to prepare you for your role. The orientation session presents program expectations, confidentiality regulations, dress code and hospital safety regulations.

School Year Program

The school year program offers students the flexibility of volunteering weekends during the school year or all year long. Students can choose to volunteer on Saturday or Sunday morning (9 am – 1 pm) or afternoon (1 pm – 5 pm).

Summer Program

The summer volunteer program requires that students volunteer eight to ten hours per week to achieve 100 volunteer hours over the summer months. Most volunteer one full day or two half days per week. This program begins in the spring when students attend a three-hour orientation program.
