Bethke Cancer Center
Diagnostic Imaging: Technology and Expertise
Sophisticated diagnostic imaging is helping to detect cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage, and it plays an important role in the development of a patient’s individualized treatment plan. At the Bethke Cancer Center, experienced radiology staff collaborate with cancer specialists and use the latest technology, including a 16-slice CT scanner, MRI scanner, ultrasound, bone scans and digital mammography—the newest approach to this important screening tool.
Many of the latest biopsy techniques do not require surgery, thanks to image-guided techniques used by radiology staff to obtain tiny tissue samples for examination. This is true of breast biopsy, where MRI scans are used, and for specialized interventional radiology procedures. Talented pathology staff play an important role in diagnosing cancer by examining tissues, tumors and blood samples in order to define the extent of the cancer and how it is likely to respond to various treatments.
