Guidelines for Screening

Guidelines for scheduling a mammography screening

The American Cancer Society recommends a base line mammogram at age 40. After age 40, women should have a mammogram every year. Some women are at greater risk and may require earlier or more frequent imaging.

Because some cancers are not visible on mammograms, monthly breast-examination and an annual breast exam by a physician are also important components in detecting breast cancer early.
