Pathology

Emerson’s pathologists direct the clinical activities of each section of the laboratory: chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, hematology, anatomic pathology and cytology.

In addition, the pathologists provide and interpret laboratory test results to help diagnose and treat diseases. They dissect tissue specimens, examine slides, identify cancerous and benign cells, and aide the surgeons by performing frozen sections on surgically removed tissue samples. Emerson pathologists also provide consultation on pathology reports from other hospitals.
