Pulmonary Medicine
The Pulmonary Medicine service and Respiratory Care Department offer comprehensive diagnostic, treatment, education and rehabilitative services for a full range of respiratory conditions.
Diagnostic procedures include pulmonary function testing, asthma challenge testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, bronchoscopy and sleep disorder evaluations.
Members of Pulmonary department and Respiratory Care department provide comprehensive care of critically ill patients in the Emerson Critical Care Unit. These individuals have special expertise in critical care medicine.
A pulmonary rehabilitation program is available to help patients with emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis and other respiratory disorders. It emphasizes patient education and increasing exercise capability.
Asthma services include:
- evaluation to assess severity of asthma;
- education regarding potential triggers of asthma and their avoidance and monitoring and treatment options.
