Before Your Surgery
Before surgery, we ask that you follow these important safety rules. If not followed, your operation may have to be delayed or canceled.
You will be required to fast prior to your surgery unless you will be having a local anesthetic. Please follow the guidelines below unless your doctor or anesthesiologist instructs you differently.
- Clear liquids may be consumed up to 4 hours prior to your scheduled surgical time. Acceptable clear liquids include: water, apple juice, cranberry juice, carbonated beverages, black coffee, black tea.
- Do not consume alcoholic beverages, chew gum or tobacco or eat candy after midnight the night before your surgery.
- Do not smoke after midnight the night before your surgery.
- Breast milk may be consumed up to 4 hours prior to the scheduled surgical time.
- Infants under one year of age may consume formula up to 6 hours prior to their scheduled surgical time.
- If you take insulin or any other routine medication, your doctor or anesthesiologist will tell you how to take the medication on the day of surgery.
- If you take a blood thinner, please tell your surgeon.
- Do not bring jewelry or other valuables.
