Spine Surgery

The spine surgery service at Emerson Hospital is dedicated to providing evaluation and treatment of all spinal disorders affecting the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.

Physicians often advise patients to consider a multi-disciplinary approach -- including a range of options before considering surgical treatment. These may include physical therapy, medication, physiatry, chiropractics, and pain management.

If surgery is the desired option, Emerson has the sophisticated diagnostic tools, innovative surgical techniques, and new devices that have recently transformed the field of spine surgery.

Most importantly, patients have convenient access to dedicated, widely recognized spine care professionals who offer the highest quality care for a variety of conditions.  Several physicians who have chosen to affiliate with Emerson are also engaged in clinical trials at academic medical centers, and are knowledgeable about new, innovative treatments.

Increasingly, outcomes research – information gathered on patients who had had spine surgery—provides guidance to patients, their families and the physicians on whether or not they should receive surgery. This is good news for patients in search of relief.

Common conditions that may be treated with spine surgery include:

Fractures
Degenerative discs
Herniated discs
Spinal cord compression
Spinal stenosis
Sciatica
Tumors
