Thoracic Surgery
Emerson’s division of thoracic surgery provides treatment for benign and malignant diseases of the chest. Advanced surgical techniques include video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), a procedure that uses a tiny camera to examine the chest cavity and lungs and to retrieve biopsy samples. This minimally invasive approach is much easier on patients than traditional thoracic surgery. Emerson thoracic surgeons also use endoscopic stapling for certain types of lung procedures. They provide treatment for the following conditions:
- Lung cancer (early and late stages)
- Esophageal cancer
- Pulmonary nodule or mass
- Mesothelioma
- Bronchiectasis
- Interstitial lung disease
- Most other thoracic surgery
