Emerson Hospital is a completely smoke-free and tobacco-free campus. The policy prohibits tobacco use — including chewing tobacco — in all areas of the campus, including inside vehicles parked on Emerson property. Emerson is part of the 73 percent of all hospitals in the Massachusetts Hospital Association that have taken the tobacco-free pledge. By going tobacco-free, we are sending a strong signal about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Parking is available in the parking garage located near the main entrance to the hospital and in the lower lots adjacent to Route 2. (There is a parking charge for most uses of the facility.)
- 0–½ hour: Free
- ½–1 hour: $4
- 1–2 hours: $6
- 2–3 hours: $7
- 3–24 hours: $8
If you are going to be visiting the hospital often, there is a maximum charge per day of $8, which includes multiple in and outs in the same day. Visitors may also purchase 14 tickets for $30. Please contact the Garage office at 978-287-3009 or visit the office, which is located on the first floor of the garage.
- If you are dropping a patient off for day surgery, there is a dedicated entrance in the Clough Surgical Center lot, which is across from the parking garage.
- If you are dropping a patient off for another test in the hospital, you may do so at the main entrance.
- If the patient is going to the John Cuming Building, there is a separate drop off area directly outside the John Cuming Building entrance.
- If you are picking up a patient, the first 30 minutes of parking in the garage or patient lot is free.
Please pay for your parking prior to returning to your car. Payment kiosks are located in the hospital’s main entrance, as well as in the John Cuming Building and Clough Surgical Center lobbies. These machines accept cash, credit and debit cards. (Cash is not accepted in the John Cuming Building or Clough Surgical kiosks.) Payment may also be made with a credit or debit card at the exit gates. There are no attendants at the exit gates.
For the convenience of our patients and visitors, valet parking is available in front of the main entrance and the John Cuming Building. The traffic circle in front of the main entrance is for active drop off and pick up of patients only, and vehicles are no longer allowed to park within that circle.
The valet service operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the main entrance, and until 6 p.m. in front of the John Cuming Building. The cost is a flat rate of $5. If you are visiting a department that offers parking validation, please park in the garage or patient parking lots. Validation does not cover valet services in either location.
For any patients and visitors that utilize valet parking and stay past closing, please call 978-580-1030 or push the silver assistance button on the parking kiosk located in either lobby.
Finding your way around the hospital
The main entrance near the parking garage is considered the hospital’s second floor, which is actually at street level when you enter the building. The Cafeteria and Gift Shop are on this level. Patient units are located on the third, fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the hospital. On level three, a central corridor connects the three wings (Wheeler, West and North) to the John Cuming Building. The Naka Infusion Center, medical records and administrative offices are also located on level three. Elevators are located in the North and Wheeler wings.
