2023-24 Current Fellows

Deidre Skerritt is a Master of Health Administration candidate at Virginia Commonwealth University (CAHME accredited) with an anticipated graduation date of May 2024. While completing her graduate degree at VCU, Deidre served as the DEI co-executive director on the executive board for the MHA Class of 2024 as well as the DEI committee of the MHA department. She also worked at Capital AHEC as a health administrative intern and currently works as a resident assistant within the VCU Housing Department. Prior to attending VCU, Deidre received her undergraduate degree in political science from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York.
Ethan Harris graduated from the Yale School of Public Health (CEPH Accredited) in May 2023, earning his Master of Public Health in Health Policy and Management. While completing his graduate degree at Yale, Ethan volunteered in the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement department at HAVEN Free Clinic. Additionally, Ethan completed a practicum with FOX Rehabilitation focused on clinician compensation and benefits analysis. Prior to attending Yale, Ethan received his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Brendan Hames (Fellow 2022 – 2023) holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (CAHME accredited).

Jordan Helms (Fellow 2022 – 2023) holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (CAHME accredited).

As a fellow in practice management, I was pushed beyond my comfort zone (with support structure) that led to incredible professional and personal growth. Ashley Adams (Fellow 2021 – 2022) holds a Master of Health Administration degree from George Washington University (CAHME accredited).

“My Administrative Fellowship provided me with the opportunity to put everything that I learned during my MHA program into action. Working alongside the vice president and practice managers at EPA was invaluable and taught me skills that I will use for the rest of my career. As a fellow, I had the opportunity to seek out hands-on experience in areas that I had never worked in before, such as revenue cycle and primary care office operations. These experiences gave me the skills needed to be a successful healthcare leader.”
Jessica Anto (Fellow 2021 – 2022) holds a Master of Health Administration degree from George Washington University (CAHME accredited).

"The Administrative Fellowship at Emerson Hospital was a terrific opportunity to operationalize my foundational understanding of healthcare. The fellowship provided a firsthand experience across various departments within Emerson Practice Associates, including revenue cycle, physician billing, primary care and specialty office operations. Learning the frontline operations allowed me to seek out areas of improvement and better support my staff as I moved into a management position. I was able to develop relationships with providers and senior level management and work with them to improve the operating efficiency of outpatient offices. These experiences as a fellow at Emerson Practice Associates molded me into a stronger leader with a well-rounded understanding of healthcare management."

Nick Lawton (Fellow 2019 – 2020) holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (CAHME accredited).

"The Administrative Fellowship at Emerson Hospital with Emerson Practice Associates is a fantastic opportunity. The ability to be exposed directly to all levels of the management of an employed physician group provides in-depth knowledge and extraordinary experience as healthcare transitions from in-patient to ambulatory settings. I observed and participated with EPA leadership in operational and strategic decision making, while also experiencing and learning the frontline operations of a physician practice. Further, I honed my project management and leadership skills through a variety of projects crucial to EPA."
Mike Tracy (Fellow 2019 – 2020) holds a Master of Health Administration degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (CAHME accredited).

"I am confident that my fellowship experience with Emerson Practice Associates has shaped me into an effective healthcare leader, particularly as an early careerist. While the didactic portion of my Master of Health Administration program provided me with a foundational knowledge of healthcare management, Emerson gave me the platform to translate education to practice. The comprehensive experience afforded me the opportunity for hands-on involvement in such departments as provider engagement, operations, and revenue cycle management, in addition to the responsibility of oversight of two outpatient practices. In a period in which the consolidation and acquisition of outpatient practices by healthcare systems is occurring at an unprecedented rate, the chance to acquire the skill set to effectively manage such locations of care is invaluable. Conor Carroll (Fellow 2018 – 2019) is a graduate of the University of Scranton's (CAHME accredited) accelerated Master of Health Administration Program.

"The Administrative Fellowship at Emerson Hospital provided me with the skill set and tools needed to be a successful healthcare professional. The structure of the fellowship allowed me to experience a wide range of projects and work with numerous departments throughout Emerson. Serving as a float manager, generating metrics for staff, and assisting in opening brand new practices are just a few examples of what I spent my time on here at Emerson as a fellow. The senior leadership team was beyond generous with their time, which allowed me to build close relationships across the organization. All of these experiences as a fellow helped me reach my ultimate goal of moving into a full-time manager position at Emerson."
