Home Care Alliance Names Emerson’s David Green ‘Physician of the Year’

David Green, MD, PC, a pulmonary medicine physician with Emerson Hospital and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, has been named “Physician of the Year” by the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts for his strong support, collaborative approach and promotion of home health care. Dr. Green was among ten individuals honored at the Alliance’s Home Care Innovations Showcase and Star Awards Ceremony at Granite Links Country Club in Quincy for their exemplary work in helping people remain independent in their homes.

“Dr. Green’s work is a shining example of what can happen when physicians collaborate with home health and hospice agencies,” said Home Care Alliance Executive Director Patricia Kelleher. “We’re proud that Emerson Hospital Home Care is working so closely with Dr. Green who goes out on home care visits and understands the many challenges and opportunities of in-home health care.”

Dr. Green created the Chronic Lung Disease Program in 1999 at Emerson Hospital Home Care, and has been meeting with Emerson Home Care staff regularly ever since then to discuss cases and how patient care can be improved. Dr. Green also provides home care staff with pertinent education and invited the home care agency to present their most challenging cases at Emerson Hospital’s Ethics Rounds.

“The rounds include a multidisciplinary approach to patient care and provide an opportunity to collaborate with our colleagues throughout the hospital to provide the highest-quality care to all of our patients,” said Emerson Hospital Home Care Nurse Supervisor Sarah Kelly who nominated Dr. Green for the honor. “We are so fortunate to have Dr. Green as our advocate, collaborator, mentor and ambassador of home care. As a result of his collaboration with Emerson Hospital’s Home Care team, the Chronic Lung Disease program has led to decreased hospitalizations and emergency department visits for patients with severe lung disease.”
