Emerson Hospital Awarded A Grade for Excellence in Patient Safety

11/16/2018

Emerson Hospital has again been honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. Emerson has now earned twelve consecutive As for Safety since 2013. The results are available to the public and are designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.

Leapfrog calculates the Hospital Safety Score under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data from more than 2,600 acute care hospitals nationwide on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. Hospitals are assigned an A, B, C, D, or F for their overall performance.

Emerson received particularly high marks in a variety of areas, including responsiveness of hospital staff to patient needs and having a strong culture of patient safety. Safety performance measures are collected from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In addition, secondary data is used from the American Hospital Association’s Annual Survey.

“Providing all of our patients with the best and safest medical care possible is our primary focus,” said Christine Schuster, President and CEO of Emerson Hospital. “We are proud have experienced clinicians and a culture that supports excellent patient care. Patients and families choose Emerson for many reasons, including our outstanding medical teams, compassionate care and commitment to helping patients recover fully following illness or surgery. We are honored to receive our 12th consecutive “A” rating from Leapfrog and never waver from providing our patients with the best care possible.”
