Gloria Clough Elected Chair of Emerson Hospital’s Board

5/24/2019

Emerson Hospital’s Board of Directors recently elected Gloria Clough as its Chair, effective immediately. She succeeds outgoing Chair Paul Birch who remains active on Emerson’s Board and various health system committees. Ms. Clough works closely with Emerson’s CEO, Christine Schuster, to establish the overall vision and goals of the Emerson Health System.

Ms. Clough, a longtime supporter of Emerson Hospital, served as recent Chair of the Emerson Health Care Foundation Board. She begins her role as Board Chair at an exciting time in the health system’s 118-year history.  As a leading community hospital and health system, Emerson is expanding its innovative services while remaining the health care provider of choice for residents throughout 25 towns in the greater Concord area.

“I am grateful to work alongside Gloria and the Board of Directors to make decisions that will ensure the health needs of every resident throughout our service area are met,” said Christine Schuster, president and CEO of Emerson. “Gloria and her family have been pivotal to the growth of Emerson over the past several decades. Her passion for and understanding of healthcare is what we need to continue to grow and expand our services, while maintaining Emerson’s focus on providing world class medical care in compassionate ways to people of all ages.”

Ms. Clough is a longtime resident of Concord. She is a psychiatric clinical nurse specialist and received her nursing degree from Roger Williams General Hospital School of Nursing. She received a master’s in nursing from Boston College and a master’s of divinity from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology. Ms. Clough established the first chaplaincy program at Emerson in 1991, which continues to thrive today. In addition, she is the Board Chair of Bridge Over Troubled Waters, an outreach program for homeless youth.

“I am honored to serve as the new Board Chair of Emerson as we face exciting opportunities to expand the health care system’s services and continue to be a medical provider of choice,” said Ms. Clough.
