Emerson Hospital Awarded Highest Grade for Patient Safety

1/4/2021

Emerson Hospital has again been honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group. The results are available to the public and are used to make informed decisions about where to go for hospital care.

Leapfrog calculates the Hospital Safety Score under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel using publicly available data from more than 2,600 acute care hospitals nationwide on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections. Hospitals are assigned a letter grade for their overall performance. Just 32 percent of hospitals in the country receive an A.

Emerson received particularly high marks for various measures, including hand hygiene, reduction in C. diff infections, and maternity care standards. Safety performance measures are collected from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In addition, secondary data is used from the American Hospital Association’s annual survey.

“I am extremely proud of our Emerson team for their tireless work to care for our community,” said Emerson Hospital President and CEO Christine Schuster. “Emerson’s commitment to quality and safety allows us to provide our patients with the best possible care — during the pandemic and in regular times.”
