About Me

Early on in medical school, I dedicated myself to becoming an academic surgeon – a professor of surgery at a major teaching hospital. I joined a surgical research lab and completed several projects prior to graduating and beginning the required five years of clinical training. I spent three years in a research laboratory in addition to five years of clinical training, which were followed by a clinical fellowship in colon and rectal surgery. I was certainly committed to an academic career. But along the way I found that seeing and caring for patients is what I truly love. At the end of my clinical fellowship I made what was then a difficult decision – to work in a community hospital setting. And I’m glad I did. Working in a community such as the one served by Emerson Hospital is more rewarding for me because I have no distractions from my primary passion – providing great surgical care for the people I serve. I have the privilege of getting to know people, not just patients or diagnoses. I am honored by the people who trust me to guide them through their surgical journey safely and effectively so that they may regain their quality of life as soon as possible. The greatest reward is when a person says “thank you”; there is nothing in life more satisfying than that.
