Sarah Alimi

Sarah Alimi, PT, DPT, OCS

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Ms. Alimi graduated from Upstate Medical University with a doctorate in physical therapy. She has been working in outpatient rehabilitative services since 2004, including outpatient hospital and private practice settings. Her primary treatment focus includes orthopedic conditions and she is trained in oncology rehabilitation. She is also a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team and assists with physical therapy student programs. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) including the orthopedic and education sections.

Josh Avery

Josh Avery, PT, DPT

Senior Physical Therapist

Experience: Mr. Avery graduated from Northeastern University with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and his Bachelor's Degree in Rehabilitation Science. Before joining the Emerson team, he had multiple years of outpatient orthopedic and sports physical therapy experience including work with the New England Patriots while he was at Northeastern University. Josh has worked extensively with both adult and pediatric populations. He specializes in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation and has a strong manual therapy background. While at Emerson, he has been active in the Spine Rehabilitation Clinic and the Concussion Program.

Naseem Chatiwala

Naseem Chatiwala, PT, MS, DPT, NCS

Clinical Specialist Neurology/Pediatrics

Experience: Ms. Chatiwala is a board-certified neurological specialist with more than 18 years of experience treating a wide variety of adult and pediatric neurological diagnoses. She was recently awarded an APTA credentialed certificate in vestibular competency after successfully completing intensive training in vestibular rehabilitation at an Emory University-sponsored course. Ms. Chatiwala received her Advanced Masters in neurological and transitional Doctor in Physical Therapy from MGH-Institute of Health Professions. She helped design the Better Balance Clinic and is currently working to develop a pediatric program at the Concord site. Ms. Chatiwala runs the Brace Clinic offered in Concord. She's a member of APTA neurological sections.

Elizabeth Chausee

Experience: Ms. Chausee graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a doctorate in physical therapy and an undergraduate degree in exercise physiology. Prior to joining the Emerson staff, Ms. Chausee completed doctoral internships at MidCoast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine, and Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, focusing on both outpatient and inpatient care for orthopedic and complex neurological conditions. Ms. Chausee has received a certification in LSVT BIG, which is evidence-based treatment approach for Parkinson’s disease.

Experience: Ms. Clancy graduated with her master’s and transitional doctorate in physical therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions. She is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She is certified in the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through The McKenzie Institute, USA. She successfully completed the APTA vestibular and advanced vestibular competency programs. Prior to joining Emerson she worked for many years in upstate New York with a focus on orthopedic and vestibular disorders. She is a member of the APTA Orthopedic and Neurological Sections.

Lisa Coppola

Experience: Ms. Coppola graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a doctorate in physical therapy. Her undergraduate degree is in kinesiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Prior to joining the Emerson staff, she worked at Nashoba Valley Medical Center as an outpatient physical therapist with occasional inpatient acute care coverage. Her focus is on orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, injury treatment and prevention, and post-surgical rehab. She is trained in oncology rehabilitation and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team. She is also an aquatic therapist for Emerson.

Liz Crowley

Liz Crowley, PT, DPT

Experience: Ms. Crowley graduated from the University of Connecticut with her doctorate in physical therapy. Her undergraduate degree is from Colgate University. Prior to working at Emerson Hospital she had clinical experience working at Spaulding Rehab Hospital in Charlestown, Mass. She has had experiences working with various patient populations, including spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, neurological movement disorder, amputee, and orthopedic. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Blithen Davis

Experience: Ms. Davis graduated from Northeastern University with a Masters in Physical Therapy. Prior to joining Emerson, Ms. Davis worked for New England Baptist Hospital in their Spine Program and in an outpatient sports physical therapy clinic. She specializes in spine, concussion, vestibular and pregnancy-related conditions. Ms. Davis is involved in the spine rehabilitation clinic and the concussion program at Emerson.

Scott Dery

Senior Physical Therapist

Experience: Mr. Dery graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell with a doctorate in physical therapy. His undergraduate degree is in exercise physiology. Since joining the Emerson staff in 2013, Mr. Dery has focused on orthopedic rehabilitation, sports injury management, and chronic and acute spinal conditions. Scott enjoys helping patients return to function by combining evidence-based and experience-based therapeutic exercises and manual therapy techniques. Scott is also actively involved in our spine group, concussion, and orthotics care teams.

Taylor Donovan

Taylor Donovan, PT, DPT

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Ms. Donovan graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, with a doctorate in physical therapy. Her undergraduate degree is in exercise physiology with a minor in nutrition. Prior to joining the Emerson staff, Taylor completed doctoral internships with Baystate Franklin Medical Center and Lowell General Hospital focused on both outpatient and inpatient care. Ms. Donovan is trained in oncology rehabilitation and is active with the spine clinic and the Be Strong Cancer Care Team.

Visien Fiset

Vivien Fiset, MSPT

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Ms. Fiset graduated from McGill University with a degree in physical therapy and received a master’s in rehabilitation administration from Boston University. Ms. Fiset has more than 30 years of outpatient experience and has developed and designed multiple programs including the Better Balance Clinic, Be Strong Cancer Exercise program, vestibular rehabilitation program and lymphedema treatment program, among others. She is also trained in oncology rehabilitation and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care team.

Jessica Gravel

Jessica Gravel, PT, DPT

Senior Physical Therapist & Project Manager

Experience: Ms. Gravel is the outpatient concussion coordinator for our physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology departments. She has assisted in the growth and development of Emerson's current post–concussion and baseline concussion programs. Ms. Gravel is also the project manager of the Dr. Robert C. Cantu Concussion Center's Oak Foundation grant, where she provides concussion education and baseline testing to adolescents within Massachusetts and oversees the grant’s research objectives. Ms. Gravel specializes in orthopedic and sports injuries and concussion rehabilitation with a strong manual background in treating patients with spine dysfunction following post-concussion syndrome. She is also trained in oncology rehabilitation. Ms. Gravel graduated from the University of Hartford with a master's in physical therapy and the MGH Institute of Health Professions with a doctorate in physical therapy.

Kara Lammerding

Experience: Ms. Lammerding graduated from the University of Hartford with a bachelor’s in health science and a doctorate in physical therapy. Ms. Lammerding’s experiences include inpatient and outpatient orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation, lymphedema management, and concussion management. Ms. Lammerding has received certifications in LSVT® BIG and Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!), both of which are evidence-based treatment approaches for Parkinson’s disease.

Courtney Larguinho

Experience: Ms. Larguinho graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell with a doctorate in physical therapy. Her undergraduate degree is in exercise physiology. Prior to joining the Emerson staff, she completed doctoral internships with Emerson Hospital and Newton Wellesley Hospital focusing on outpatient care. Ms. Larguinho is active with the Dr. Robert C. Cantu Concussion Center and Wellness Center for Mind & Body at Emerson Hospital. Ms. Larguinho specializes in vestibular and neurological rehab. She is an LSVT BIG® therapist, which is an evidence-based treatment approach for Parkinson's disease. She is also trained in oncology rehabilitation and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team. She is an instructor for community wellness classes at Emerson and coordinates the student program.

Joshua Leigh

Joshua Leigh, PT, DPT, CSCS

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Mr. Leigh graduated from Husson University in Bangor, Maine, with a doctorate of physical therapy, where he conducted research on electrical current and force production in muscle. Prior to that, he completed his bachelor’s in kinesiology at the University of British Columbia and volunteered with Whistler Adaptive Sports as an adaptive ski instructor at Whistler Blackcomb. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Mr. Leigh’s experiences include sports injury management, inpatient and outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, and research. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American Physical Therapy Association.

Ms. Mistry is a board certified neurological specialist and a LSVT BIG-trained therapist. Prior to working at Emerson, she worked in inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation with her primary focus in stroke, brain injury, and Parkinson’s disease. Ms. Mistry is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the neurology section.

She received her undergraduate degree in neural science from New York University with a minor in chemistry. Alyssa completed her doctoral internship at Boston Medical Center in the acute-care setting. Her experiences include inpatient and outpatient orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation, as well as balance and fall prevention training. Alyssa utilizes evidence-based therapeutic exercise and manual therapy techniques combined with a strong focus on education to improve patients’ function.

Marcia Reinstein, PT

Experience: Marcia Reinstein graduated from Sargent College at Boston University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in physical therapy. Before starting at Emerson’s Center for Rehabilitative and Sports Therapies in 2010, she worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings. In May of 2015 she attained her ARTI aquatic therapy certification and now works with patients both on land and in the pool. Currently she is the chair of the Pool Care team and in the process of getting her American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) aquatic certification. Clinical experience includes treatment of patients ranging from age 8 to geriatric with a wide variety of orthopedic and neurological impairments. She is a member of the APTA, including the aquatic section.

Prior to joining the Emerson staff, Ms. Sawicki had clinical experiences in skilled nursing and outpatient settings, including a year-long internship at Emerson’s Center for Sports and Rehabilitative Therapies. Nicholas Schumacher, PT, DPT

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Nick graduated from Boston University as a doctor of physical therapy in 2016. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Health Studies at the same institution. Immediately following the completion of his doctorate, Nick enrolled in the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, where he received extensive training in manual therapy and the management of orthopedic injuries. Nick is a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the NSCA and readily incorporates this knowledge into the care of his patients. He is involved with research in the Performance Division at the U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine, where he is working to prevent injuries and improve rehabilitative outcomes for the U.S. Armed Forces. He enjoys working with all athletes, but he has a particular passion for working with runners and tactical athletes (i.e., soldiers, police, and firefighters). He is an active member of the Sports and Orthopedic Sections of the APTA.

Debbie Smith

Experience: Ms. Smith graduated from Russell Sage College with a bachelor's in physical therapy. She has more than 35 years experience in various settings with an emphasis on orthopedics and sports injuries. She is trained in manual therapy including Paris, McKenzie, Jones, cranio-sacral, myofascial release, reiki, manual lymph drainage, and muscle energy techniques, as well as spinal stabilization, Kinesio taping and Pilates. She is also experienced in oncology rehabilitation and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team.

Ryan Stoddard

Chief Physical Therapist, Orthopedic Clinical Specialist

Experience: Mr. Stoddard graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy. His undergraduate degree from the same institution is in Exercise Physiology. He achieved a specialty board certification in Orthopedics through the American Physical Therapy Association in 2009. Mr. Stoddard earned his strength and conditioning specialty certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2000. He brings a collaboration of out-patient therapy skills from nine years of practice to the Emerson Center for Sports Rehabilitation at the Thoreau Club. His treatment style incorporates the best evidence-based medicine with manual therapy and corrective exercises. He is an active member of the APTA-Sports and Orthopedic sections.

Mason Thornton, PT, DPT

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Mr. Thornton graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2007 with a bachelor’s in exercise physiology and in 2010 with a doctorate in physical therapy. He has multiple years of experience in both orthopedics and skilled nursing facility care, with previous orthopedic experience through Kaiser Permanente of Southern California. Mr. Thornton utilizes evidence-based manual therapy and therapeutic exercise approaches with education to return patients to function.

Karen Veilleux

Pediatric Physical Therapist

Experience: Ms. Veilleux graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and from Simmons College with her doctorate in physical therapy. Karen specializes in pediatric therapy. Prior to working at Emerson Hospital she had clinical experience at an outpatient pediatric center in the Boston area as well as a clinical affiliation with Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. She is aquatic therapy certified through the Aquatic Therapy Rehabilitation Institute. She enjoys working with children of all ages and abilities and has worked at adaptive sports camps in the Boston area. She is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Pediatric Section.

Abby Brayton-Chung

Experience: Ms. Brayton-Chung graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a master’s degree in occupational therapy. Prior to joining the Emerson team, she worked in a variety of pediatric settings, including early intervention, public and private schools, and an outpatient pediatric program. Ms. Brayton-Chung brings more than 10 years of pediatric experience to the Emerson team and is trained in the Sequential Oral Sensory (S.O.S.) Approach to Feeding. She is an active member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, formerly serving on several committees, including past-moderator of the Feeding, Eating and Swallowing member forum.

Clinical Interests: Pediatric rehabilitation, concussion, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, pediatric feeding and eating difficulties


Marnie Deardorff, MS, OTR/L

Staff Occupational Therapist

Experience: Ms. Deardorff graduated from Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitative Sciences with a master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2002. Her undergraduate degree is in human development and health sciences from Penn State University. Prior to joining the outpatient therapy team at Emerson, she had 15 years of experience working in acute inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and skilled nursing facilities, where she specialized in the treatment of patients impacted with stroke, brain injury, neurological disorders and multi-trauma orthopedic injuries. Ms. Deardorff is certified in the Neuro-IFRAH® (Integrative Functional Rehabilitation and Habilitation) treatment approach for the management of adults with hemiplegia and has completed further coursework for advanced hand function and fine motor control within this framework.

Experience: Ms. Dixon Keilty graduated in 2001 from the Boston School of Occupational Therapy at Tufts University. Prior to coming to work for Emerson Hospital, Kristen worked in acute rehabilitation of acquired brain injury at Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital. She was a staff occupational therapist on the Emerson Transitional Care Unit from 2004-2012. In 2012, Kristen transitioned to the outpatient department to assist in the development of the Keys to Independence driver assessment program, which she continues to run at the Center for Rehabilitative and Sports Therapies. She spent three years working with the Robert C. Cantu Concussion Center treating patients with concussion and post-concussion syndrome. Kristen is a Massachusetts certified driver instructor and a driver rehabilitation specialist and lectures to graduate students of occupational therapy about driver assessment, driver rehabilitation, and driver retirement. She has participated in lectures and panel sessions at local councils on aging, the Liberty Alzheimer’s Partnership, and the Massachusetts Older Driver Safety Summit. In 2016, Kristen gave the opening presentation to the New England Traffic Educator’s Association entitled “Driving and Post-Concussion Syndrome”.

Experience: Ms. Dugan graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s in occupational therapy and is a certified hand therapist. She has more than 20 years of experience in a variety of clinical settings, focusing on hand therapy since 2000. Ms. Dugan is published and has lectured on healthy computer use for computer science educators and students. In addition, she has lectured on thoracic outlet syndrome and arthritis.

Nicole Finch

Senior Therapist

Experience: Ms. Finch graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a master’s degree in occupational therapy. Her undergraduate degree is in psychology from Stonehill College. Prior to joining the Emerson team, she worked at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, where she specialized in treating patients with brain injury, stroke, and multi-trauma orthopedic injuries. Nicole is proficient in use of Neuro-Developmental Treatment techniques, Kinesio Taping, rigid taping, Bioness NESS H200 hand rehabilitation system, Dynavision D2, and treatment of neurological-based visual deficits. She also has a background in assistive technology, and has presented at multiple conferences on "iPads: enhancing OT practice".

Antonella Lanni

Antonella Lanni, MS, OTR/L

Chief Occupational Therapist

Experience: Ms. Lanni graduated from Towson University in 2000 with a Masters in Occupational Therapy. Her undergraduate degree is in Exercise Physiology from Boston University. Prior to joining the Emerson outpatient staff, Antonella worked at Kernan Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where she specialized in treating traumatic brain injury, stroke and multi-trauma orthopedic injuries. She is the supervisor of outpatient occupational therapy and is responsible for the development and growth of our current orthopedic rehabilitation programs. Ms. Lanni oversees specialty OT programs in pediatrics, neurology and, most recently, the Keys to Independence driving program.

Clinical Interests: Neurological injuries with a focus on traumatic brain injury and stroke rehabilitation, and orthopedic trauma injuries

Experience: Mrs. Lizotte graduated from Springfield College with a master’s degree in occupational therapy in 2005. Her undergraduate degree is in psychology from the University of Massachusetts. Prior to joining the Emerson team she worked in acute rehabilitation hospitals, where she specialized in treating spinal cord, stroke, traumatic brain and multi-trauma orthopedic injuries. She also has experience working in home care and skilled nursing facilities.

Experience: Ms. Pitwood graduated from the University of Zimbabwe with a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in occupational therapy in 1992 and has 25 years of clinical experience in occupational therapy, most of which has been focused on upper quadrant/hand orthopedic injuries and conditions. She has been fortunate enough to have worked in Zimbabwe, the United Kingdom and all over the USA gaining experience in multiple treatment settings and health care systems. Ms. Pitwood is a certified hand therapist and has extensive experience in design and fabrication of custom orthoses.

Chelsea Mello

Chelsea Mello, MS, OTR/L

Experience: Ms. Mello graduated from the Boston School of Occupational Therapy at Tufts University and specializes in pediatric occupational therapy. Ms. Mello received her undergraduate degree in psychology and minor in cognitive science at Trinity College. Prior to joining Emerson, she worked in several school-based programs with a wide range of diagnoses. Ms. Mello completed her fieldwork in an elementary school with a behavioral and emotional support program and in a pediatric outpatient center providing services to children from birth to 21 years of age. In the fall of 2015, Ms. Mello presented “Look aHEAD: Occupational Therapy’s Role in Concussion Management” with a colleague to the Massachusetts Association of Occupational Therapy. In addition to working at Emerson, Ms. Mello currently works per diem in a pediatric inpatient rehabilitation hospital. Ms. Mello is involved in the pediatric and concussion rehabilitation programs at Emerson.

Robin Sklar

Robin Sklar, OTR/L, CHT

Experience: Ms. Sklar graduated from Boston University with a bachelor's in occupational therapy. Ms. Sklar has more than 30 years of experience, primarily in orthopedic hand/upper quadrant injuries. Her past experiences include acting as chief of an occupational therapy department for a Harvard teaching hospital and developing outpatient hand satellite clinics for New England Rehabilitation Hospital. She also has extensive training in custom splinting. She is trained in oncology rehabilitation and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team.

Experience: Ms. Bellino is a certified and licensed speech-language pathologist who evaluates and treats conditions that impact cognition, speech, language, and swallowing skills. She works with adolescents and adults who have sustained concussions and brain injuries, who are undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer, or who are experiencing other neurodegenerative concerns. Prior to joining Emerson’s team, Ms. Bellino worked at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital with post-acute brain injury and stroke populations, as well as at Emerson College, where she provided clinical instruction to graduate student clinicians and guest lectured on topics of clinical interest. She holds both a bachelor’s degree in communication disorders and a master’s in speech language pathology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Ms. Bellino began her career at the Centre for Neuro Skills in California, working in an outpatient rehabilitation setting with adults who sustained traumatic brain injuries. She returned to Massachusetts to work at the Ivy Street School, treating adolescents and young adults with acquired and traumatic brain injuries. There, she was a founding member of a transition services classroom targeting executive functioning and social-cognitive skills in naturally occurring contexts. Ms. Bellino has presented at local, state and national levels on the topic of innovative programming for the transition from adolescence to young adulthood.

Experience: Ms. Carter evaluates and treats adult and adolescent patients with language, cognitive and speech deficits that result from a variety of neurodegenerative processes, stroke, brain tumors, chemobrain and mild traumatic brain injury. She strives to provide a combination of restorative and functional compensatory treatment to help maximize each individual’s overall quality of life. In 2015, Ms. Carter published an interdisciplinary study entitled “Modified Berg Balance Scale: Making assessment appropriate for people with aphasia” in Topics of Stroke Rehabilitation. Previously, she worked as an outpatient speech language pathologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She holds a master’s degree in speech language pathology from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, Mass.

Colleen Dowling

Experience: Ms. George is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and a Massachusetts-licensed speech/language pathologist who has been practicing since 2010. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in dance from Skidmore College in New York and her Master of Arts degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2010. In graduate school, Ms. George was awarded a National Institute of Deafness and Communications Disorders fellowship to present her research at the Clinical Aphasiology Conference in the area of bilingual aphasia. In 2011, she co-authored the publication “Effects of Cognate Status and Language of Therapy During Intensive Semantic Naming Treatment in a Case of Severe Nonfluent Bilingual Aphasia”, published in the journal Clinical Linguistics & Phonetics. Her clinical experience includes treatment and assessment of infants and children with a variety of diagnoses in the school, pediatric outpatient, early intervention, and private practice settings. She is trained in the Beckman Oral Motor method, DIR Floortime, neuro developmental therapy, and LAMP. Ms. George is an English and Spanish speaker dedicated to delivering optimal services to culturally and linguistically diverse populations. She is currently a member of Emerson’s Pediatric Clinical Feeding Team and a member of ASHA’s Special Interest Group 13 in swallowing and swallowing disorders and dysphagia.

Clinical Interests: Diagnosis and treatment of pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders, neuromotor disorders, motor speech disorders including Childhood Apraxia of Speech, language development in infants and children, development of communication skills in play-based therapy, infant feeding and swallowing, and bilingual aphasia

Experience: Ms. Hill earned her master’s degree in communication disorders from Emerson College in Boston, Mass. She currently works with children with a variety of speech, language, and feeding challenges. She has particular experience performing clinical feeding evaluations and pediatric modified barium swallow studies. Her approach to treatment emphasizes functional, family-centered strategies to promote language and feeding development within a child’s natural environment.

Brenda Lovette

Experience: Ms. Lovette works with adults and adolescents with a variety of communication, cognitive, voice, and swallowing challenges. She earned her master’s degree in speech language pathology at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Her approach is highly functional, focused on improving skills important for each individual’s unique needs and maximizing quality of life. She is trained in oncology rehabilitation and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team. She is also a registered yoga instructor and has presented on the effects of meditation and breath work on wellness and neurorehabiliation.

Angela O’Hara, MS, CCC-SLP

Experience: Ms. O’Hara has unique experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary feeding team, providing multi-disciplinary developmental evaluations, and performing comprehensive pediatric speech/language evaluations and treatment. She established the Pediatric Feeding Therapy program at Emerson and works with children experiencing a range of difficulties around feeding and mealtimes.

Joy Walsh

Joy Walsh, MS, CCC-SLP

Senior Speech/Language Pathologist

Experience: Ms. Walsh is a certified LSVT provider, a SPEAK OUT! provider, and is trained in videostroboscopy and Fiber Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). She has published two research studies: “Double-Blind study on the effects of topical anesthesia on laryngeal secretions” (J Voice. 2006) and “Diaphragm training in amyotropic lateral sclerosis” (J Clin Neuromuscul Dis. 2008). Ms. Walsh works in both acute care and outpatient settings with a focus on voice disorders and dysphagia and is currently studying the Estill Voice Method. She is trained in oncology rehabilitation and serves on our Cancer Care team and Neurological Care team. She is an active participant in Boston Area Dysphagia Grand Rounds.

Mary Ann Butler

Mary Ann Williams-Butler, MA, CCC-SLP, CBIS

Experience: Ms. Williams-Butler has more than 35 years experience as a speech/language pathologist and is a certified brain injury specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America. During her time at Emerson Hospital, she has developed the cognitive retraining program currently utilized for the concussion population and established the Modified Barium Swallow study program. She has held adjunct faculty appointments in the communication disorders department at Worcester State University, served as a subject matter expert in pediatric TBI for the American Speech/Language Hearing Association’s practice portal, and has presented nationally on the following topics: dysphagia, memory deficits, cognitive pragmatic deficits, and traumatic brain injury including concussion.

Experience: Mr. White graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology: athletic training and from Boston University with a master’s in human movement. He has spent the past fourteen years working in professional hockey with the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks organizations. He also has experience working with collegiate athletes from the College of the Holy Cross and Boston University.
