Josh Avery

Josh Avery, PT, DPT

Senior Physical Therapist

Experience: Mr. Avery graduated from Northeastern University with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy and his Bachelor's Degree in Rehabilitation Science. Before joining the Emerson team, he had multiple years of outpatient orthopedic and sports physical therapy experience including work with the New England Patriots while he was at Northeastern University. Josh has worked extensively with both adult and pediatric populations. He specializes in orthopedic and sports rehabilitation and has a strong manual therapy background. While at Emerson, he has been active in the Spine Rehabilitation Clinic and the Concussion Program.

Clinical Interests: Orthopedic and sports rehabilitation, sport-specific training, concussion management, manual therapy and injury prevention


Crystal Fontas

Crystal Fontas, DPT

Chief Physical Therapist

Experience: Ms. Fontas graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell, with a Bachelor of Science in exercise physiology and a doctorate in physical therapy. She assisted in the development of the Spine Rehabilitation Program as well as community outreach programs for runners. Ms. Fontas has received specialized training in treating pregnant and postpartum conditions, is trained in oncology rehabilitation, and is a member of the Be Strong Cancer Care Team. She also provides sports rehabilitation to athletes at an area high school and coordinates the student program.

Clinical Interests: Orthopedic, sports, spine and cancer rehabilitation, management and prevention of running injuries and pregnancy/postpartum conditions


Kara Lammerding

Kara Lammerding, PT, DPT

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Ms. Lammerding graduated from the University of Hartford with a bachelor’s in health science and a doctorate in physical therapy. Ms. Lammerding’s experiences include inpatient and outpatient orthopedic and neurologic rehabilitation, lymphedema management, and concussion management. Ms. Lammerding has received certifications in LSVT® BIG and Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery (PWR!), both of which are evidence-based treatment approaches for Parkinson’s disease.

Certifications: LSVT® BIG, PWR! certified

Clinical Interests: Orthopedic rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, concussion management, and preventative health and wellness


Joe Marcotte, PT, DPT, ATC, CSCS

Staff Physical Therapist

Experience: Mr. Marcotte graduated from the University Massachusetts Lowell (UML) with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Prior to attending UML Joe completed his Master of Science in Athletic Training at Bridgewater State University and his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He is a licensed athletic trainer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Mr. Marcotte’s experiences include sports injury management at the high school and collegiate level, inpatient & outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, and long term care. Joe is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and American Physical Therapy Association.

Certifications: Licensed Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist

Clinical Interests: Sports injury management, orthopedic rehabilitation and strength and conditioning


Ryan Stoddard

Ryan Stoddard, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

Orthopedic Clinical Specialist

Experience: Mr. Stoddard is a chief physical therapist at the Thoreau Club satellite office as well as Emerson Hospital’s Center for Rehabilitative and Sports Therapies. He brings several years of experience and practice since graduating from UMass Lowell in 2003 with a doctorate in physical therapy. He earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from 2000 from the same institution. Ryan is a board certified Specialist in Orthopedics through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialists since 2008. He also has maintained a certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association since 2000.

Certifications: APTA Orthopedic Certified Specialist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist

Clinical Interests: Manual therapy, sports medicine, orthopedics and spine rehabilitation
