Breast

  • Preparing for a Breast Ultrasound

    • If you have previous mammogram and breast ultrasound images, please bring them to your appointment so that the radiologist can compare them with your new images.
  • What to Expect During the Exam

    • You’ll be given a gown and asked to remove neck jewelry and clothing from the waist up. To make this easier, we suggest wearing a two-piece outfit that day.

  • After the Exam

    • After your breast ultrasound you may dress and resume normal activity.
    • If further intervention  is needed, most are made with an accurate ultrasound-guided needle biopsy (available in Concord).
    • Our experienced team provides personal attention, technical expertise and conscientious follow-through during and after your visit.
  • About Breast Ultrasounds

Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, involves exposing part of the body to high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation (as used in x-rays). Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

A breast ultrasound produces a picture of the tissues inside the breast. This image can show all areas of the breast, including the area closest to the chest wall, which is hard to study with a mammogram.
