An X-ray is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose a wide array of medical conditions. With X-ray imaging, the part of the body being examined is exposed to a small dose of radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body.

When the X-ray beam is used with a video screen, this technique is called fluoroscopy. This allows physicians to visualize the movement of a body part, an instrument or dye (contrast agent) through the body in real time.
