Your Stay at Emerson

Our goal is to provide you with excellent medical care in a warm and caring environment that respects your individual needs. Should you have any questions about your care, or need any additional information about Emerson Hospital, please ask any member of our team.


The hospital offers nutritious meals through same-day ordering or room service. Your meal can be ordered by following the instructions on the menu located at your bedside. If you are on a special diet, the order form will indicate only the varieties of foods that you are allowed. You may request that a clinical dietitian explain your diet to you.


Local calls are available to patients free of charge. All non-local calls must be placed through the hospital operator. You will be responsible for the cost of long-distance calls. Phone cards are also available for sale in the Gift Shop.


Flat-screen TVs are available in all patient rooms free of charge. A listing of stations is provided in your room.

Tobacco-Free Policy

Emerson Hospital is a completely smoke-free and tobacco-free campus. The policy prohibits tobacco use - including chewing tobacco- in all areas of the campus, including inside vehicles parked on Emerson property. Emerson is part of the 73% of all hospitals in the Massachusetts Hospital Association that have taken the tobacco-free pledge. By going tobacco-free, we are sending a strong signal about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.


Hospitalists are internal medicine physicians whose primary focus is the medical care of hospitalized patients. They do not have a medical practice outside of the hospital, so are able to focus all of their attention on patients in the hospital. Your hospitalist will see you each day that you are in the hospital and will be available throughout the day if you or a family member has a question. The hospitalist will communicate with your primary care doctor about your treatment and progress, ensuring a smooth transition when you are discharged from the hospital.

Patient Advocates/Representatives

A patient representative’s primary reason for service is to represent your concerns and interests. They are trained volunteers who know the resources and services available at Emerson and throughout the community.

  • Created to provide a special channel through which you, the patient, can seek solutions to any problem that may arise during your stay at Emerson.
  • Patient representatives visit newly admitted patients on the nursing units every weekday morning.
  • This service is one of the many ways Emerson Hospital shows that we care for our patients beyond the medical and nursing treatment you might expect.

Chaplain/Pastoral Care

If you would like a chaplain to visit, please ask your nurse or patient representative, or call extension 3015. The chapel is open 24 hours a day and is located on the third floor of the hospital.
