How A Simple Screening Saved Paul’s Life

A simple lung screening saved Paul Carter’s life. Four years ago, when Paul was 61, Dr. James Cohen, his primary care physician at Westford Internal Medicine, recommended he receive an annual LDCT (Low Dose CT) test – a lung CT scan that takes a detailed picture of the lungs to detect cancer at its earliest, most treatable stage. Paul was a smoker for 45 years but he had no symptoms of lung cancer or other diseases.

Emerson Hospital’s President and CEO Christine Schuster, was honored to represent the hospital at an event recently to celebrate the Boston Globe 2019 Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts. Emerson was #8 on the Globe’s Top 100 Women-Led Businesses list. Ms. Schuster joined Emerson in 2005 and has over 30 years of health care experience. During her tenure at Emerson, she has led the hospital’s growth in many areas, including the expansion of surgical services, creating urgent care centers in Hudson and Littleton, and new programs including the Dr. Robert C. Cantu Concussion Center and Emerson’s Scoliosis program in Westford. Emerson Hospital is one of the few remaining independent community hospitals in Massachusetts.
