Registration Now Open for Fall Classes at Steinberg Wellness Center

9/3/2020

The Steinberg Wellness Center for Mind and Body offers a wide assortment of online classes this fall. A few classes will also be offered on-site. Registration is now open for classes that begin in mid-September and late October. Participants can choose from a variety of unique classes to improve their physical and mental well-being.

All online classes are taught via Zoom, which participants find nearly as good as in-person classes with the added convenience of exercising in the comfort of their home. All in-person classes follow strict protocols for health and cleanliness in keeping with Emerson Hospital and Massachusetts state guidelines.

Classes include:

  • Osteofitness — Participants will learn how to prevent falls and improve balance and mobility, reduce arthritis pain, integrate stress management and promote circulation. The class is taught by Beverley Ikier, a board-certified muscular therapist and bodyworker, and certified personal trainer with the National Council of Strength and Fitness and the Arthritis Foundation.
  • Essentrics — A unique, full-body workout, Essentrics strengthens and lengthens your muscles simultaneously, resulting in longer, leaner, stronger muscles without using weights or equipment. This class is taught by Severina Gates, who trained with Essentrics creator Miranda Esmonde-White, and is the first fully-certified level 4 Essentrics instructor in Massachusetts. Joining Severina are certified Essentrics instructors Farhana Stevenson and Leah Whitehouse.
  • Parkinson’s Movement: Dance for PD — A variety of dance techniques and styles are taught to address balance, flexibility, movement range and rhythm. The class is based on the acclaimed Dance for PD program developed by the Mark Morris Dance Group and Brooklyn Parkinson Group. The classes are led by Susanne Liebich, licensed Dance for PD instructor, choreographer and program director for more than 20 years.
  • Yoga — An array of yoga classes are offered by experienced and certified instructors. Classes include: Gentle Yoga, Yoga & Meditation, Healthy Aging, Yoga for Boomers & Seniors and Yoga for Building Bones.
