Effective treatment starts with an accurate diagnosis. Pathologists—physicians who are diagnostic experts—play a vital role in this process by looking at tissues and cells under the microscope (called anatomic pathology) and interpreting laboratory tests (clinical pathology).
Emerson Hospital’s pathologists are highly trained and exceptionally qualified to ensure that you receive a precise and accurate diagnosis, whether for a common condition such as diabetes or elevated cholesterol, or a more complex disease such as cancer.
Advanced testing
Board-certified by the College of American Pathology (CAP), our pathologists provide a full range of testing using the tools of chemistry, clinical microbiology, hematology, surgical pathology and cytology.
Notably, they use CAP-standardized reporting protocols to categorize tumors for their exact cell type, tumor grade and stage—which helps oncologists when they are considering targeted immunotherapy, one of today’s most powerful weapons against cancer.
They also provide direction and supervision of Emerson Hospital’s Blood Bank.
Nationally accredited laboratory
The Emerson Hospital Laboratory is accredited by CAP, The Joint Commission and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB). This means we are regularly inspected by these organizations, and meet rigorous national standards for quality and safety.
