Behavioral Health

If you or a loved one is struggling with mental health or substance use issues, Emerson Hospital’s Behavioral Health department can help. We provide comprehensive inpatient mental health and outpatient substance use treatment services for adults in a safe, caring environment.

In fact, Emerson Hospital serves as a regional treatment facility for several managed health care plans — a testament to the high quality and effectiveness of our behavioral health services.

An estimated 1 in 5 adults experiences a mental health issue every year. There is no shame in seeking help, and our multidisciplinary staff of psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and other behavioral health professionals are here to provide it.

Our specialty expertise includes:
•    Chronic mental illness
•    Substance use (opioid, alcohol, and other addiction issues)
•    Depression and anxiety
•    Psychopharmacology (medication to treat mental health issues)

We work closely with patients, families, primary care physicians and other health care providers to deliver an integrated program of evidence-based behavioral therapy and other support services to adults in need.

The services we offer

  • An inpatient program that includes a short-stay 31-bed unit for behavioral health and substance use in a general hospital setting
  • Outpatient programs including an addiction recovery program and support groups
  • Psychiatric triage in the Emergency Department: Emerson has a 24/7 Psychiatric Triage Team consisting of licensed clinicians that provide a diagnostic evaluation, risk assessment, and determination of need for additional care. If our evaluation points to the need for inpatient or outpatient treatment, our Triage Team will assist in securing the appropriate services.
