Experience
Alyssa is an occupational therapist on the concussion and neurological outpatient rehabilitation teams at Emerson. She works in collaboration with the Dr. Robert C. Cantu Concussion Center to treat patients with functional visual deficits after concussion. She also specializes in treating patients with neurological conditions including stroke, Parkinson’s, and brain injury. She received a clinical doctorate in occupational therapy from MGH Institute of Health Professions where her doctoral capstone project evaluated the effects of cognitive strategy and task-oriented training in improving upper extremity function after stroke. She received undergraduate degrees in psychology and sociology from the University of Vermont. Prior to joining the outpatient team at Emerson, she worked in an acute rehabilitation hospital treating patients with neurological and musculoskeletal conditions where she was also a member of the cognitive rehabilitation team. Alyssa is also a PWR! certified therapist trained to support Parkinson’s patients in neuro-based exercise to promote functional performance in daily life.
