While cancer treatment can save your life, it also can leave you feeling tired and weak. To help you regain your strength and functioning, reduce fatigue and reclaim the best-possible quality of life during and after surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, specially trained oncology therapists at Emerson Hospital offer a variety of individual and group rehabilitation programs.

These cancer rehabilitation programs are designed specifically for people with all types of cancer diagnoses, in all phases of treatment—including after treatment.

The aim of oncology rehabilitation is to prevent or lessen the development of long-term issues such as:
  • Lymphedema
  • Restricted range of motion
  • Fibrosis
  • Deconditioning
  • Vestibular (balance and equilibrium) issues
  • Pain
  • Neuropathy

Whether you require physical, occupational or speech language therapy, our skilled oncology therapists will develop a cancer rehabilitation program that focuses on your specific needs.

As your stamina increases, you may progress to the Be Strong Cancer Group, an 8-week transition program that prepares you to continue with a lifelong exercise and wellness program, with your therapists recommendation. The class is held in both Concord and Westford.
