In 2017, Dr. Kafina received a 35-year career achievement award in immunology and rheumatology from his alma mater SUNY Downstate. He collaborated in characterizing topoisomerase and RNA polymerase autoantibodies in scleroderma at Mt. Sinai. He did a predoctoral fellowship in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Kafina has been on faculty at Harvard Medical School since 1997, where he enjoys teaching.
