New Year Baby Born to Sudbury Family at Emerson Hospital

Looking ahead to their baby’s due date of Jan. 15, Amy and John Ciampa of Sudbury had planned a quiet New Year’s Eve at home with their two children, 15-year-old Michael and 10-year-old Matthew. However, Annabella Teresa had more immediate plans, arriving at 3:07 p.m. on Jan. 1 at Emerson Hospital’s Clough Birthing Center.

The baby was delivered by Emily Bearse, a certified nurse-midwife with A.F.A. Obstetrics and Gynecology, P.C. She weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20 inches.

The couple arrived at Emerson at 4:30 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, and John joked that they enjoyed a “romantic dinner for two” in the labor and delivery unit. “The staff, from top to bottom, was fantastic,” he said. “The whole process was pretty quick and incredibly smooth. It was a different New Year’s than we expected, but a very special one.”

The couple was delighted with Annabella’s candy cane gown, and complimented the nursing staff on being so attentive to their needs.

“It feels very homey,” Amy said. “We feel truly cared for, and that people are genuinely happy and excited for us. The human side has been really sweet.”

In addition to the ease with which they will be able to chart Annabella’s milestones, John said having a baby on New Year’s Day is special for another reason. Their older children, Michael and Matthew, were born on Jan. 20 and Jan. 7, respectively, and John’s brother, Amy’s father, and their nephew also have birthdays this month.

“It’s really nice to have another reason to celebrate,” Amy said. “Having this beautiful new baby in our lives is the ultimate blessing. There couldn’t be a better way to kick off the new year.”
