The Emerson Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce a unique event - the Timeless Treasures Tour, an antiques appraisal fundraiser to benefit Emerson Hospital on Saturday, March 7. Three expert, professional appraisers will assess antiques and other beloved treasures, brought in by the public, for their value and their history.
Denise Haartz, Auxiliary member and past-president, plans to bring antique brass andirons, thought to be from the Revolutionary War period, to be appraised, and she is excited to have the opportunity to learn more about these family heirlooms. "Bring your own special treasures and join us for this informative event," she said.
The Timeless Treasures Tour will take place on March 7 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Concord Meadows Office Park, 300 Baker Avenue, Concord, just off Route 2. Enter under the Welch's sign and proceed to the Hangar Café. Free parking and complimentary refreshments will be available. Appraisal fees are $20 for one item, $40 for two items, and $50 for three items.
Three nationally-known appraisers will be at the event, representing extensive knowledge in decorative arts, art history and culture. They are:
• James Callahan, an independent Asian arts appraiser and consultant specializing in all aspects of Asian art, culture, and customs, as well as decorative arts and silver. He appears frequently on PBS' Antiques Roadshow, was director of Asian works of art at Skinner Antiques and Auctioneers, and is a frequent consultant to museums and historical societies.
• Colleene Fesko, a fine arts and antiques appraiser specializing in paintings, prints, and sculpture. Her experience includes more than two decades at Skinner Auctioneers and Appraisers, work as a consultant with Christie’s American Painting department, and frequent appearances on PBS' Antiques Roadshow. She has been a guest on NPR's Talk of the Nation.
• Peter Murphy, a former appraiser at C.G. Sloan & Co. in Washington, DC who later transitioned to Skinner, Inc. as a decorative arts specialist in the Americana Department. He travels throughout the country sharing his passion for antiques.
The community is encouraged to bring the following items for appraisal: Asian art, collectibles, dolls, paintings, pottery, quilts, silver and other household items. Good quality photos are recommended in place of large items, such as furniture and very fragile goods. Coins, jewelry, firearms, musical instruments and stamps are not able to be appraised at the event.
