Emerson Hospital was named a Top Urban Hospital by The Leapfrog Group, a national leader and advocate in hospital transparency. This recognition is based on Emerson’s commitment to Leapfrog’s vision of providing the safest, highest quality healthcare for consumers and purchasers.
“We are very honored to be named a Top Urban Hospital,” said Christine Schuster, president and CEO, Emerson Hospital. “Everyone at Emerson is focused on providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare to people in our community. I am proud of our team for going above and beyond to not just treat illnesses, diseases, and other ailments – but to care for people in the most gentle and understanding ways possible. This distinction from The Leapfrog Group reflects how we care for and treat every person who comes through our doors.”
Emerson was chosen to receive the distinction from among 1,500 hospitals throughout the country. Just 62 hospitals were recognized as a Top Urban Hospital. The honor is based on the results of The Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: How patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors. Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in determining the qualifications for the award, including survival rates for high-risk procedures and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.
“Leapfrog’s Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions any hospital can achieve in the United States,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Top Hospitals have lower infection rates, better outcomes, decreased length of stay and fewer readmissions. By achieving Top Hospital status, Emerson Hospital has proven it prioritizes the safety of its patients, is committed to transparency and provides exemplary care for families and patients. I congratulate the board, staff, and clinicians of Emerson whose efforts achieved these results.”
The Top Hospital award is given to urban, rural and children's hospitals that publicly report their performance through the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey and meet the high standards defined in each year's Top Hospitals Methodology. The award was presented today during the Top Hospitals Awards Ceremony at The Leapfrog Group Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. Patricia Wheeler, Emerson’s Senior Director, Quality & Patient Safety, was on hand to accept the award.
