Annual Tree of Lights Holiday Tradition Set for December 7

11/18/2015

The 27th annual Auxiliary of Emerson Hospital Tree of Lights ceremony takes place on Monday, December 7 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. at the hospital. In 1988, the Auxiliary began the tradition of lighting the evergreen tree that graces the main entrance to Emerson Hospital as a way for the community to recognize special people who have touched their lives.

All are invited to join in this lovely holiday tradition. A brief ceremony will take place at 4:30 p.m. in the Cheney Conference Room at Emerson Hospital.  The ceremony will be led by Emerson Chaplain Timothy Duff and will include music by the Holy Family Parish Handbell Choir of Concord.  Following the ceremony, guests will come together for the tree lighting outside Emerson’s main entrance.  Refreshments will be served following the lighting of the tree.  Parking validation is provided for those attending the ceremony.

This event is a way for the Emerson community to recognize special people in their lives by donating a light or a star on the tree.  Donations can be made in honor or in memory of a loved one, or to commemorate a special event. All donations will benefit the Emerson Hospital Employee Emergency Assistance Fund and will be recognized in the Auxiliary’s Tree of Lights Tribute Book. The Emergency Assistance Fund is used to support Emerson employees who need emergency financial assistance such as paying a heating bill or to purchase school supplies for their children. The Tribute Book will be on display in the Chapel at Emerson Hospital throughout the holiday season.

“As Emerson touches the lives of so many people in the community throughout the year, the Tree of Lights tradition is particularly meaningful,” said Betty Ann Killian, Auxiliary President. “The large evergreen tree stands tall and strong on Emerson’s campus. When it is lit for the holiday season, it brings peace to the many people who come to Emerson and to those who honor a loved one with a light or a star on the tree.”

Donations are $10 for a light or $25 for a star on the tree.  Please mail your donation to Martha Jourmas, 336 Lexington Road, Concord, MA  07142.  Donations can also be dropped off at Emerson’s Community Services Office found on the main hallway.  For more information, contact Donna Grinnell at 978-263-9830 or donnagrin@aol.com

The Auxiliary wishes to thank this year’s sponsors: Circle of Life Partners, Laura Mullins of PrimeLending and Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
