Paintings by Local Artists Now on Display at Emerson Medical at Sudbury

5/27/2016

As part of its focus on providing high-quality healthcare to the community, which includes creative arts to inspire wellness, Emerson Medical at Sudbury is continuing its Art Exhibit series.  The latest exhibit features colorful paintings by two local artists: Emily Passman of Lexington and Tom Veirs of Carlisle. The exhibit is on display through August on multiple levels of Emerson’s medical office building located at 490 Boston Post Road, Route 20 in Chiswick Park, Sudbury.

The two artists are inspired by similar subject matter, but see and execute it in contrasting ways.  Ms. Passman, a recognized artist and teacher, paints still lifes and landscapes. Mr. Veirs, who has a studio in Lowell, mainly paints abstract imagery.

Ms. Passman is a painter of oils and acrylics, known for her expressive, loose style. She works from observation, both in the studio and “plein air” and describes her work as a ‘reaction to’ the observation of a subject, with a loaded brush, as opposed to a rendering of a “pretty” scene.  Her work is in galleries in New England and in private collections internationally.  After earning both a fine arts degree and a Master’s in Education, she had a successful career as an educator and graphic designer before she became a painter.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Tom Veirs is primarily a self-taught painter. He studied stage performance at Memphis State University and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he was assigned to a military police unit in Germany.  His inspiration for artistic expression, whether it involves painting, stage performance, music or any other artistic work, lies in the emotion of the moment both from a performer’s experience as well as an observer. Color, shape and form define his level of emotion.

The exhibit was curated by Jennifer Hart, artist and gallery instructor with the Museum of Fine Arts – Boston, and a resident of Carlisle.  The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Paintings are displayed throughout the lobby and the second floor of the medical office building. All works are for sale. Inquires may be directed to the artists, their contact information is available at the exhibit.
