Sometimes diet and exercise aren’t enough. If you are considering surgical weight loss, the first step is to become educated about the different procedures, what to expect and how to live a long, healthy, energetic life. The Emerson Hospital Center for Weight Loss will host a free surgical weight loss information session on Wednesday, June 8 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Nashua, 11 Tara Boulevard, Nashua, New Hampshire.
David Lautz, MD, medical director of Emerson Hospital’s Center for Weight Loss, will discuss comprehensive surgical services for people who are 100 or more pounds overweight. Options include laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery, laparoscopic banding and sleeve gastrectomy, a surgical option in which the stomach is shaped into a narrow pouch. They will also be available to answer your questions.
Dr. Lautz and the other members of Emerson’s surgical weight loss team have performed hundreds of laparoscopic weight loss surgeries with positive, long-term results. The surgeons at Emerson’s Center for Weight Loss are bariatric surgeons, specifically trained in performing bariatric surgeries. The Center’s experienced and empathetic staff are with patients every step of the way to answer questions, address concerns and plan for continued success. “Each operation has its own personality, as well as risks and benefits. Our job is to describe all of that to patients, answer their questions and let them decide if bariatric surgery will fit into their life,” said Dr. Lautz, one of 12 surgeons asked to join the Governing Committee of the American College of Surgeons Bariatric Surgery Center Network, which accredits bariatric surgery centers of excellence nationwide. Emerson achieved Level 1A accreditation in 2010.
All pre- and post-surgery care is provided in a comfortable clinic setting that is designed for the comfort and privacy that bariatric patients deserve. This is where patients meet with their surgeon, a mental health counselor, a nutritionist and other clinicians that are part of their team.
“We are looking forward to meeting prospective patients in Nashua to make it more convenient for them to learn about options for successful weight loss and long-term healthy living,” said Dr. Laura Doyon, bariatric surgeon. “Our team has performed dozens of surgeries on patients in the Nashua area. These patients travel to Emerson because they are looking for the comprehensive and compassionate care that our program offers. The information session in Nashua will make it easier for those who are considering bariatric surgery at Emerson.”
Attendees of the session will receive information on who is a candidate for the surgery, the results prospective patients can expect and how support, counseling and education can help achieve long-term weight loss. If prospective patients are unable to attend on June 8, additional information sessions will be held on June 29 and July 27 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Radisson Hotel Nashua.
There is free parking close to the entrance of the hotel. To register, or for more information about the program, call 978-287-3532 or visit www.emersonhospital.org/weightloss.
